Galaxy Gear 1/non Samsung Device

So I got a Gear 1 from a friend and I'm trying to get it to work with my M9. I can't seem to find a solid non-root method to get this to work. He had his paired to a Droid Turbo prior to him getting a Gear S.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
