Galaxy Gear, Can't hear anything

Okay so I got the galaxy gear this weekend. I do love it but when I tried to call my husband (house was very quiet) he could hear me but I couldn't hear anything. Does anyone else have this issue? I know it won't be extremely loud but I thought I could at least hear something. So is my watch defective or is this just how it is? It's the Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch- Retail Packaging - Wild Orange and got it from Amazon.

Did you make sure the volume was up all the way? It's the same as on your phone, there are different volumes for system, notifications, etc. I believe a speaker icon is on the screen during a call to increase the volume. I know on tizen there is. If you don't see it, maybe call your home phone and play around while it's connected.
