First time posting in the Galaxy Nexus forum. I have a Rezound, but I got my wife a Galaxy Nexus before VZW changed their plans.

She is constantly losing data and having trouble sending text messages. It sometimes takes her 3 or 4 times to send a text. We live in a pretty good 3G coverage area. She is running the latest OTA, but not the least bit interested in letting me root her phone, so that's out of the question.

You guys think she got a bad unit or is this common? I don't want to call tech support and them send her another Nexus if this is widespread.

It could be the phone. I just upgraded and got a Nexus, and its incredible. Pulled in strong data speeds, no problem

This is not uncommon with the Galaxy Nexus as some samples just don't hold a signal very well. I suggest swapping it for another unit.

Have Verizon change the sim card first, it can if faulty prevent your phone from connecting to your carrier. You get to keep your new phone instead of getting a used replacement that was someone elses problem and highly unlikely that it was actually fixed.

Replacement phones are just recycled problems C.L.N stands for cleaned like new.
