I have using my Galaxy Nexus for the past year and upgraded to Jellybean 4.2 around 3 months back. I've had no complaints at all and was very happy with the phone.
Since last two days my phone suddenly either
- goes unresponsive in locked/or unlocked state. i can hear notifications alert or phone rings but cant do anything. Even the hardware power switch does not bring the screen on. Works only after a battery reinsert.
- Does not detect any wifi signals, but works fine off 3g
- when its working, it has a 3-4 sec delay between me doing something on the touch screen and it beeing reflected.
- Did a factory reset and ensured it did not restore any settings back after the reset, but no change.

Using the stock 4.2.1 which i google official released over the wire, never rooted or flashed custom ROM and want to avoid that.

I have the same issue. Samsung Galaxy Nexus running latest release from Google. Screen has been black and unresponsive 3-5 times a day! Power button won't do anything, even though I here alerts and emails in the background, everything still running. Have to remove the battery.

Seems to happen when the screen times out at the exact same moment I press power button, which in response tells the phone to awake. But because it is going into sleep state with it's special effect, looks like it gets stuck in a screen power off loop it can't escape.
