I'm the owner of the original Motorola Droid. The phone has been great but its time for an upgrade. I've been holding out on my upgrade for almost 6 months waiting for the right phone to come out. I would like to stay with android. The Galaxy Nexus has some great new features and the Iphone 4s is a perfect polished up phone.

Things that stand out about the Galaxy Nexus that I like are the the big screen, tons of options with Android operating system, and the build quality.

Things that stand out of the Iphone 4s are Operating System reliability, quality of apps, and probably a better camera.

I will be upgrading to one of these two phone. Would like to read some opinions to help me make the best decision.

If you wanted an objective opinion why would you ask here? Same thing is true about going to tipb and asking the same question in a forum there.

Come on, you're a big boy, check it out, compare based on YOUR needs and make up your own mind.

Until the official GN phone is released, all this section has are opinions. Read, my friend. Read.

Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Just FYI, if you're expecting an unbiased opinion, this is not the place to ask this question.

That said, as an iPad and Android phone owner, I personally feel that the flexibility/power of the Android OS outweighs the benefits of Apple's more mature app market and higher overall polish.

I no longer think iOS is more stable after owning an iPad for a few months. I have more force-close issues on my iPad than my phone.

I wouldn't compare or try to compare them yet, since no one has one yet. I wouldn't think it fair to to either phones to try to compare them when we don't know how its going to function and work yet. Wait for someone to get their hands on one, then you can go deeper :) Not too much longer man.

I really think it depends on what you use your phone for - whether you use it for high end apps that requires high processing power or just simple day-to-day tasks.

You already know now that Android provides users the freedom to customize the phone in every aspect, and this is something that Apple can never beat. If you want to make your phone unique, make it 'your own' phone by customizing it to suit your every need from a phone, then stick to Android. imo, the phone itself looks very decent, it's a different look and the screen is definitely an advantage over the smaller screen on the iphone.

With a screen that big, GN can be optimized as a phone for browsing. Along with LTE, the phone can reach maximum speeds on the go with a screen that is not too big but comfortable enough for you to enjoy a decent browsing experience. The new ICS is snappier and allows you to multitask more comfortably than ever.

If you prefer to use a phone just as a standard tool to generally help you with day-to-day activities such as music, quick games or reminders then iphone offers better reliability with its simple and straight to the point UI. The new processor does provide the phone more compatibility with high end gaming apps but I don't really think the small screen can provide a good gaming experience.

Like I said, how you integrate technology with your daily life is the most important factor in choosing a new device. iPhone tend to 'force' you to start using new apps like iTunes or iCloud, but since Android is developed by Google it is able to interact with third party apps normally found in regular PCs, and also Google services that most people use - Gmail and Chrome.

So basically if you love customizing your phone and use it for a 'portable media device', use an Android. But if you like on-the-go, fast and simple functionality, use the iPhone. It's as simple as that in my opinion

Hope this helps :)

They are two distinct phones and OS, so its really what you use your phone for. Great comment.

Camera...let's see. The iPhone camera is nice, and I wouldn't mind that camera in the Nexus, but I doubt anyone would be disappointed in the quality of the pictures taken with the Nexus. Remember the photographer makes the pictures look good. The camera is just a tool. Like a hammer. If your birdhouse looks like crap, it is not the hammer's fault.

[tl/dr] Don't let camera specs be the deciding factor.

OS. If you want an app drawer, both phones have those. In fact in iOS, this is the only thing you see. No widgets.

Everything else is equal IMO. Except screen size and that is personal preference.

The short version is: if you want a mobile appliance, the iPhone is the best. If you want a mobile computing experience, the Nexus is the best. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, depending on your needs.

Despite snide comments (on both sides), there isn't a "smarter" or "better" choice - it really depends on what you want/need out of your phone. The camera in both phones will be nothing short of excellent. The iPhone4s will have a bit higher resolution, but you'll never notice unless you make posters out of your photos. Both cameras look to have excellent white balance, do well in low-light situations, and are extremely fast (the Nexus actually looks faster, but we'll need someone to time them in a controlled environment to find out for sure).

If you want 4G, or a bigger screen, or like watching movies on your phone, the Nexus is your choice. If your're a diehard iTunes user with a huge libarbary, there are Android solutions but clearly the iPhone will be a much easier solution with tighter integration. If you want a phone that is small enough to slip into skinny jeans, the iPhone is a better choice. If you want widgets and customization, the Nexus is the way to go.

You can go on and on this way - they're both excellent pieces of kit, and they both have strengths and weaknesses. Sit down and maybe list out what you really want out of your phone, and then figure out whether iOS or Android better matches that list.

And either way, have fun doing it!

iPhone 4S is out and the Galaxy Nexus is not. I would wait until you could compare the two but if you can't, the math should be pretty easy.

I had this decision too then I thought....iTunes....which is something I'm definitely not interested in using anymore then I have too..

I am in the same situation as the OP. Ordered iPhone 4S because my Palm Pre+ is falling apart. But canceled the pre-order because of the battery issues that are all over the Mac forum sites. I will read, read, read, and hope I can resolve this by December. I am inclined to go with Galaxy Nexus because I am more connected to Gmail and calender than to Mac mail and iCal. Also have an iPod Touch already, and want to get into a new and different OS. My daughter has the Droid 3and I am fairly impressed, but would not buy one. Looking forward to more news on Galaxy Nexus.

Very sweet that you are considering the Galaxy Nexus. In this case that you are looking for more information, please ignore most of the negative threads that have plagued this forum about the GN. Its going to be a sweet phone and I'm looking forward to it as well. Again, its all about what you use it for and what you look for in a phone. Cheers :)

ericsckane,

that link was too funny...I think siri is a complete gimmick which will get used by most people for about a week and then be forgotten about (or at least I hope) if not people will look dumber than ever having stupid conversations with their phones....
