Galaxy Note 8.0 - Missing Page Buddy, Outdoor Mode

Hey guys,

I just upgraded to Android 4.2.2 on the Note 8 Wi-Fi. Then I realized there were missing components.

  • Page Buddy -- up until now, plugging in headphones, or undocking the S-Pen, would open up a unique screen where you could add icons of apps specifically for usage with headphones or the S-Pen. Now, all that is left is a group of most frequently used apps in the notification bar.
  • Outdoor Mode on the video player -- it artifically cranked up brightness on colors for far better viewing outdoors (like VLC's Image Adjustment settings, only provided as a pretty good preset).

Am I missing something here? Or has Samsung really dropped these for a lighter experience?

My Note 8 came with 4.2.2 so I don't know what is missing from the 4.1.2 version except the keyboard options(querty, floating, split) that the Note 8 at Best Buy has running 4.1.2. Comparing it to my Note 2 there are differences but I don't know what the previous version had to start with. I don't have s-pen keeper on the Note 8 with 4.2.2, it is on my Note 2 and would be a welcome feature, I will leave the pen on the table in a meeting eventually. Are these missing or just hiding in some obscure settings that I haven't found yet? Calling Samsung support and e-mailing their support link has been a waste of time.

What's S-Pen Keeper? (Yay for device-specific features indeed.) There IS something that will keep your Note from looking for a pen when the default one is inserted, but that's about it... That's in the settings.

Did anyone find the answer to this? The multi window feature apparently relies on the easy mode being disabled and now that is gone as well.

Sounds like software didn't settle right and a factory reset is necessary. I did the update and do have Easy Mode available but not sure on Outdoor or Page Buddy.

I found an App that tells you when you walk away and leave your s-pen behind. It's called S-Pen Keeper on the Play Store. This feature comes with the Note 2, not exactly the same functionality, but actually better in my opinion. It's a nice feature to let you know if you walked off without your s-pen.
