I did the same, cracked my screen from a really short drop, these curved screens are almost impossible to survive even a small drop. Eventuality, like within 2 days my digitizer went out also. I bought a Squretrade warranty this time instead of the AT&T insurance through Asurion. AT&T would have cost me $299 and probably would have just gotten a refurbed phone. Square Trade replaced my screen and digitizer, which I believe is attached to the screen anyway, for $129, so I got my own phone back, less than a year old, and Square Trade does use Samsung parts. So overall I'm pretty pleased with my experience with Square Trade.

I cracked mine last summer. I had Square Trade, and it cost me $99 to get it fixed. But it took me a couple of weeks to get it fixed, as I was traveling. The phone worked fine the whole time, and I even dropped it in a lake while taking pictures of the dogs swimming. Never missed a beat. But every crack is different.
