Galaxy Note Edge AT&T not allowing me to type during calls

I've had my Note edge since they got released. I've always been able to multi-task like a pro on it. Approximately a month ago, I noticed that I cannot respond to texts or access the keyboard on other applications during a call. I can pull up the app, but when I try to type, the keyboard doesn't pop up and it causes my app to freeze. At this point I cannot close the app until I finish the phone call. Then my keyboard pops up as it normally would. It's really frustrating. HELP ME PLEASE!
