Galaxy Note is getting ICS

I dunno. I don't doubt that Samsung will update those to ICS, I just doubt that it will be done soon. The SGS2 was just released and the G-Note hasn't been released in the US. I'm thinking that we're at least looking at 2Q2012 for ICS updates...

Although the Note has additional customization for the pen, I think it could happen 1Q. Hopefully Samsung is getting smarter about developing their customizations to ease rollout of new Android versions.

would it use the tablet version/UI or the phone version/UI?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm betting phone, but an enterprising dev will enable tablet UI (screen density changer should do it) and that may be an interesting experience.

The beauty is that they're the same thing - ICS - right? Wasn't that the point of ICS?

Not quite. They have the same "look and feel" in general, and it brought phones and tablets to feature parity. It also made apps that take advantage of both screen sizes easier to make. It doesn't make the UI the same. The tablet UI will adopt a dual pane layout much of the time, and has buttons that are at the bottom edge of the screen, along with notifications. The phone UI will have a single pane layout, with softbuttons staying on the small side of the screen and notifications on a pulldown from the top.

My take on the ICS matter is, Samsung has had ICS for a while now. They needed it for the GALAXY Nexus. My opinion is they are several steps ahead of the other OEMs, in that regard. As Google said they would release ICS (open source) after the Nexus device was released. I think most everybody is waiting for the release of Nexus, before anybody can move forward with ICS.

I would guesstimate Q2,2012 earliest. Samsung has to update all of their recent phones to ICS, right? The question is what is the priority of the GNote. Keep in mind that sales of the Note are a fraction of the GS2...

While I'd love to have ICS, I'd buy the Note either way. The phone will still work without it. :D

As long as it's updateABLE to ICS (by the consumer's intervention or pushed down OTA when available), I see no reason to hold off purchase.

No flash support for Galaxy Note with ICS. CNET reports that Flash is NOT included in the ICS package and is NOT available in the Android Market. In fact, they said Flash will no longer be supported for any Android release after ICS.

Adobe will release a version of Flash for ICS, hopefully by the end of the year but after that they are done with Android.
