Hey guys... I got the S10+ and I noticed for the first time yesterday that when my battery died, I went to plug it in and nothing happened. There was no charging animation and the phone wouldn't turn on while plugged in. I had to charge it with my wireless charger and it started to charge and charging animation appeared. Then I was able to replug it into the wall charger and it started to charge. Don't know if this is a known issue or am I doing something wrong.... Thanks for the help

Allowing the battery to die and shutdown the phone is bad. It like pulling the plug on your PC, and most of us are familiar with the reboot process involved in that, the whole checking files and the big warning that shutting down your PC incorrectly can lead to corrupt files and data. Yeah like that... What you experienced is very normal. It was actually charging and had you left it on the charger you would have found that a half hour or so later the device would have powered on and all of your animations and such would have returned. I'm not sure if it's a safety thing or what but abrupt shutdowns often result in this behavior. I highly recommend that you avoid this practice for the sake of your device. When properly shutdown the phone doesn't just turn off it actually goes through a shutdown procedure which includes stopping processes, clearing caches and saving data to name a few.

Ohh ok... Good to know... That was the first time my phone died and it was cause my daughter was playing on it while in kids mode. Just found it weird that the animation happened with the wireless charger and not the cable.... And I did have the phone plugged in with the cable for over 30 min and nothing.

I would assume that if you had just unplugged it and plugged it back in after that much time the animation would have been there. As for the not turning on while initially on the charger, I don't know why but you often have to unplug the device before it will turn on after such an event. Again this may be some kind of safety feature to protect something in the device.

Makes me wonder if something wrong with the cable, Was it the original?
Because it charged up with wireless stand just curious.

Yes it was the original cable and charging brick.. I used 3 different cables and had the same issue with all 3 cables

That's interesting, my s10+ has gone dead because battery depleted not my doing but because kids on it playing their game didn't have this issue.

I'm pretty sure it was charging, and while it may not happen every time the battery dies and shuts down the phone this is typical behavior. Did you happen to notice what percentage the phone was at when you placed it on the wireless? Was it 0 or 1%? That would mean that it was receiving no charge while plugged in and since you said it was on the charger for roughly half an hour I would imagine that the percentage was higher, 20 or 30%?

It didn't charge at all while on the wall charger cause when I tried the wireless charger, it would start charging and then the 1% would appear... Then after that I am able to turn the phone on and then I can plug in the wall charger and the phone charges normally

On Note 8 forum, some people experienced the same thing and some were able to use the wireless pad charge workaround to get it to charge when cable didn't work. Actually I think some put it on the wireless AND plug in at same time to kickstart it to charge.

I'd call Samsung if I were you just to see what they say and options.

Even though it's not good for longevity of battery to let it completely drain to zero, you should ALWAYS be able to plug in to cable and recharge your battery. ALWAYS.

Last November I spent the holidays in Switzerland and (should have tested beforehand) but during my trip, even with battery packs and trains with ports, I'm out hiking from break of dawn til late in night and seeing sites like the Matterhorn and you can't help be out somewhere, battery packs used up, and I let my phone drain to zero a couple of times. Plugged back in when I got the chance and once up to acceptable level I'm good to go.

If the only way I could kickstart it is if I had a wireless pad I'd be SOL because who packs a wireless pad with them on trips/hikes?? lol.

You're under warranty. Get it checked. Defects happen. That's what warranties are for.

Here's a link to a vid I took of the situation yesterday night... Pardon for the low quality...
