Galaxy S3 Battery Draining from Android System

Hi,

Two weeks ago my phone started dying faster, so I thought it was a specific app that was making it do that and I uninstalled it. However, the problem persisted and when I went in Setting<Battery, I found out that Android System is causing this. How can I fix this problem? I am running Android 4.1.2 completely stock. I've attached a screenshot of the Battery settings page.

Mine has really been struggling to last 12 hours lately. I mean, go to bed with a full battery and wake up 8 hours later and I'm less than 50% and the phone should have been idle the whole time. And it was.

I would check on what may be running in the background and possible wake locks. I will look for the wake lock detector app I use and it has helped me clear out some bad apps always opening in background disturbing my nice phone's nap time.
Google Play had moved up to be more active on my list.
Also look into an app GSam Battery. There is a free version and it breaks down the battery usage in detail as well as wake locks.

I used Wakelock Detector and one of the top apps were Kik. That really doesn't affect the battery though since it only makes it go down 2%. Since I couldn't find any way to fix the battery draining from the Android System (on an unrooted device), I factory reset my phone and I set it up as it was before with the same exact apps and everything. Since the reset, my battery hasn't been draining and is back to normal. It has been 1 week from the factory reset. It is still functioning properly. So now my battery draining problem is fixed thanks to a factory reset. It was painful having to lose everything but since I had backed everything up I restored it back so it wasn't too much trouble.

I think this could be related to the Google experience launcher that is side loaded.
is it possible?

After 4.3, my battery drains even worse than before. I never had the problem before though. Wakelock detector can't seem to find it.

I have read this is a glitch after the upgrade to Jelly Bean, and can usually be fixed by shutting down & removing the battery for 30 seconds.

When your phone is idle it should be in "deep sleep" state a lot of the time. You can use the "BetterBatteryStats" app to look at this, it will tell you how much time your phone is awake or in deep sleep state when it's idle. If you find that it is awake more than it should be, you can see what's keeping it awake, and look at kernel and partial wakelocks and at least have a shot at figuring out what you can change to correct the situation. A lot of times this can be due to syncing, notification, and apps that keep waking up your phone. But unless you know what's causing it, you can't do anything about it.

I use battery Doctor. It shuts down between 40and 45 background apps, then tells you how much time you have extended the battery. Now, many of those apps restart after only ten minutes, so it has a feature that will not allow background as to restart as soon as you shut them down, then you can go to bed and only 3 to 5% will be lost.

Now; the best way to not worry about your battery consumption is to buy a wall charger and extra batteries. It is cheap, works great, and easy to slip a few fully charged batteries into your pocket (or purse ladies). The galaxy 5 and up has much better battery life... due to better efficiency of the unit and better batteries. I have 2 wall chargers, as my USB charge port is broken (a common problem with micro-USB port style phones), so I don't even charge my phone that way. The wall charger is faster, and I have 4 batteries. The kit cost 19.99 for the four batteries and 1 charger, then I bought another charger for $3.99. With 3 kids also using phones, I had to sacrifice my desire to upgrade the s3, but it is a good working phone and plenty fast. Off topic, but another great app is AA Speedometer. I use a Garmin 200/205/255 suction mount, which is rock solid and does not jiggle and bounce while driving. It provides a heads up display of your speed via GPS. There are sox different modes, and it works with google maps perfectly. With prolific speed cameras in DC,I can now make sure of my speed at all times, as my arm covers the central mounted Speedo in my 2012 Optimal SX. No tickets now in over a year. I live in VA(no speed cameras) but they are everywhere in MD and DC.
