Galaxy S3 - headset volume control issue

Hi, in the last few days my s3 headset seems to have developed a really annoying problem. For no apparent reason and without being touched, I keeps randomly turning the volume right down. Sometimes it works fine for ages then all of a sudden this problem happens...once it starts it keeps happening either straight away or after about 20 seconds of the vol being turned up. Like I say this is a relatively new issue but very frustrating. Any ideas?

Is this the headset with all of the controls on a little module in the cable or just a dumb pair of headphones?

What happens if you try a different pair of headphones?

Does the Volume rocker on the phone itself seem to behave normally?

Its an official s3 headset/mic. The rocker in the phone seems fine as does the rocker on the headset. Its just frustrating because it works fine for a while and then starts going nuts at random intervals

I'd be curious as to what happens with a pair of dumb headphones (where only the Volume rocker controls everything). You may have an iffy connection with the phone, or when the cable bends it's sending an incorrect signal.

My volume up down on my Skull Candy doesn't even work with the S3. Used to work fine with Iphone.

Blame the manufacturers for having proprietary control requirements. If your Skull Candy headphones work fine with iPhones then use them with iPhones - don't expect them to work on your S3.
Why don't you try using the headphones that came with your S3? Those will work fine with your S3, and won't work with your iPhone.

@GSDer normal headphones are working ok so I must just have a dodgey headset. Rather that than a problem with my phone tho...silver linings and all that
