I just got my Galaxy S3 as an alternate replacement for my HTC 8X and I recently recieved the 4.1 update and it has caused quite a few problems:
-Battery Life Cut In Half
-Reboots (I got rid of my 8X because of this)
-Lock Screen Flickering and Turning On By Itself
-Recieving The Same Texts Consecutively, Even When I Read Them; I Recieve The Same Texts Everyday.
-No Sim Issues, Thankfully; But Signal Has Diminished Immensely.
-The Normal Android Glitches Have Gotten Worse, I've Had Black Screens Almost Everyday Now.
-My Keyboard Is Very Laggy and Sometimes Doesn't Receive Input At All.
I went to my local Verizon store and the customer service representative is having the same issues; they've talked to Samsung but there's no word on an update. Since I've already had one alternate replacement, I'm not sure if I'll be allowed another. Any suggestions? If I'm allowed to get another alternate, I might just go the i5 if possible.

Apple cannot be discounted and there not just going to send you an apple iphone 5 without you paying for it..I have an s3 and I love mine..I dont have any of these issues that your describing except the battery life is nothing to brag about at all..I see some posts about battery life and idk how these users are getting so much battery life out of the phone itself..but mine is on 4.1.2 and it works just fine..just sound like you got a bad unit?...

Just curious if you tried a factory reset after the update? That can help with at least some problems, it's recommended after an update, and it wouldn't be a bad thing to try. Be prepared to re-enter your settings, though, and have everything backed up. Personally, I'd give that a try and see if it helps.

I was having battery drain issues that started with the 4.1.1 update and got even worse after the 4.1.2 update. The battery drained faster than it had before so finally I decided screw it I am going to backup all my stuff and do a factory reset. And guess what? After the factory reset the battery drain issue is gone!! and some other minor funkyness caused by the update is gone too!!! I would Highly recommend backing up your stuff and doing a factory reset it worked wonders for me. I have had my GS3 since August and had no issues till the last 2 updates and the factory reset fixed it and now it is back to being awesome!

My daughter age 17...Got her s3 yesterday... Tried to push her to the 4...But she's happy.
14 days.. I can't believe she left iphone.
First I did lol, and she loved my phone but wanted a smaller version.
One problem she doesn't like is she can't save pictures. I said do a screen shot

I've chimed in on this more than a few times, but yeah, do a factory reset. For most (if not all) of your issues, the reset will *usually* fix it.

I know doing a factory reset sucks, but it's not like it would be any different than getting a new phone anyway. This is not something related to the S3 either, you can go into the sub-forum for just about any other phone and read about similar issues following an update, specifically an OTA update. Personally, I think the manufacturers and carriers should move away from OTAs and/or at least require a full data wipe during the update process -- history has shown that just slapping updated software over an existing configuration leads to problems more often than not.

What I'd like, is to be able to use a computer application (like Kies, for example), to backup my device, wipe, install update, restore. I'd bet that updates would go a lot smoother. Carriers prefer OTAs because they require less user interaction (and let's face it, most people are idiots that can't follow instructions*), they don't want to listen to customer backlash that would ensue if they required a data wipe, and because they can force them upon users. None the less, they suck.

tl;dr: DO A FACTORY RESET BEFORE EXCHANGING YOUR DEVICE TO SEE IF THAT FIXES IT

Do what now? Save pictures from where to where? You should be able to...

My s3 is having issue since last update. Verizon says it's Samsung. Since update, I can't make a phone call because I keep getting dropped. Also the phone keeps telling me that I am roaming. And I am getting apop up wWindow that keeps asking if I want to go to a global network. I am sitting in my house. I already did the factory reset. Didn't do anything for my problem. Before the update, my phone was great. Please help. I want to love my phone again
