I was paying over 140 bucks a month with AT&T and the coverage was terrible in my area. AT&T agreed and GAVE me a Microcell. In the end though, it was just too expensive. I talked to T-Mobile and found out I could get a prepaid plan for 30 bucks that would take my monthly allowance of 2G at AT&T to 5G. I figured if the coverage was the same as AT&T, I'm losing nothing. So I switched. I unlocked my phone and rooted it. I followed this: How to Enable T-Mobile HSPA+ AWS Bands on AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-i337/SGH-i337M! | GalaxyS4Root.com using *#0808#*. I also got this doc from T-Mobile: Connections & network: Samsung Galaxy S 4 | T-Mobile Support. My first problem was that I had no internet service, The message I received was that I wasn't connected to the network. So, the document did fix that, but then I noticed that I couldn't download pictures in mms messages. So I got into a chat with T-Mobile and He had me go into mobile networks and Network Operators and select default and change that from automatic to manual. At this point, it was searching for a carrier. Sometimes it will find AT&T and T-Mobile and sometimes just AT&T. So anyhow if I select T-Mobile and I get lucky enough that there is enough signal for it to connect, it works for a short period. Since the signal is weak it usually drops to Edge and is still weak and usually pops up and asks me to connect to a network. So, ok, I get it, I don't have enough of a signal to stay connected at home, even though according to the T-Mobile coverage map this area is great coverage for 2G. I also travel alot for work(driving) so I imagine out of my neighborhood will work better. What I don't understand is why when I'm connected to WIFI at home that my phone balks saying I have no connection?? Somewhere there is a setting I am missing or There is some remnant left from the AT&T settings; APN or something, but I have checked everything and tried every combination listed. Does anyone have any ideas? I love this phone and really would like to get it working the way I know it can. I mean why is it that I can still connect to the AT&T tower hear with 3 bars and the T-Mobile tower shows one tiny bar....I'm pretty sure it's the same tower as there is only one tower in the area.
