Hey all! I noticed something with my S4. When i am using the Samsung USB it came with and it is plugged into a outlet the phone charges up quickly, but when it is plugged into the computer the charging rate is MUCH slower. any possible reason/cause for this?

120 volt AC (alternating current , if your in the US) typically, is always going to send power faster vs a residual USB port from a computer.

Well, to be fair, it isn't the 120vac that is helping the most. It is that the bundled wall charger is 5vdc @ 1000ma and the usb on your computer is only putting out about 500ma max. Most good car chargers also put out 1000-2000ma to still charge during heavy use.

The S4 comes with a 2amp charger. Most other smartphones come with 1 amp or less for older phones. USB is gonna be even less. I'm buying extra 2amp usb wall plugs to charge my phone the fastest.

A charge rate of 1amp for ever 1000ma is what your looking for spec wise for a charger. I also noticed the stock charger charges at 2amp.

Also, remember that at 2A cable length DOES MATTER. If you get a very long USB cable, it will only support small currents because it'll lose so much along the way that even if you plug it into a 2A charger, your phone only gets about 500mA. Most PC USB ports can only supply 500mA (that IS the standard spec with 900mA as the max, after all) out of each port, unless they have a dedicated powerUSB port, which can output usually 1.5A.

I got a new car charger at ATT $30 and it does 1A and 2A charging so I am good to go either way. Looking for the wireless charger and battery door to come along.

I don't get this whole 'wireless' charging hype... I mean, the oversized cradle is still hooked up to an outlet or port, so it's not that wireless after all... Why pay so much money just to avoid hooking up a little cable to your phone? And you know what? You can't even use the device while it's charging on the wirless thingy!! With a cable you can at least have some mobility and still use the device while hooked up...

I've used wireless charging for 3 years. It's awesome. No wear on the usb port at all. No fumbling for a cable at night to plug the phone in. I have one on my nightstand and one in my car. And I keep a spare battery that charges in a standalone charger. Between the touchstones and the spare battery I rarely found myself needing to ever plug in.

Touchstone chargers are 10 bucks on ebay and an inductive coil film to install on the gs4 is 30 bucks. And it installs in 10 seconds.

That is great to know since I have two old touchstones. Where do you buy the coils and do they work good?

Does the included charger actually charge at 2ma though. I installed a widget that' supposed to tell you the charging rate. IT shows 1ma when plugged into the wall

What does it tell you with other chargers?

So when you use a 1amp charger it shows you 1amp charging rate? And when you use the 2amp charger the phone came with it still shows 1amp?

I'm just seeing 1.2amp on my factory phone s4 charger, am I missing something?

After the update that allowed installing apps on SD I noticed that the charging rate drops to 1200mA with the screen on but goes back up to 1900mA with the screen off.

Same here!

God, how I miss my beloved Palm Prē! Well, WebOS in general!
