Just arrived in SW Florida this morning. Hot (in the 80's) and sunny. I was sitting in the sun outside of my lanai with my Galaxy S4. My daughter tried calling me twice. I only discover that by accident. The phone made not a sound. I thought I had turned sound off. Not so. Also the touch screen would not respond. I took the phone inside and I guess it cooled down because I was finally able to shut down (the box touch to do so registered) just before I was ready to pull the battery.

Is it common for a Galaxy sitting in the heat and sun to fail like that.

Re: Heat Issues??

Yes that's why the manual has temps it should be operated at and also warns not to leave in direct sunlight. Direct sun light can also have adverse effects to AMOLED displays if left for long periods of time.

Re: Heat Issues??

I knew high temperatures were bad but I didn't know Sammy told us anything specific about it.
So I looked it up. Here is excerpt from my SGH-i337 manual:
Battery Use and Safety...
Do not place your battery in or near a heat source. Excessive
heating can damage the phone or the battery and could cause the
phone or the battery to explode. Do not dry a wet or damp battery
with an appliance or heat source such as a microwave oven, hair
dryer, iron, or radiator. Avoid leaving your phone in your car in
high temperatures.
...
Keep your Samsung Mobile Device away from….
Extreme heat or cold
Avoid temperatures below 0?C / 32?F or above 45?C / 113?F.
