Galaxy S4 - Help with Contacts

My GS4 died. Plugged it in at night, woke up in the morning, completely dead. Got a new GS4. However, none of my conacts came over. Where are / were they stored? How do I access them?

If you use gmail to sync contacts, from that day forward all you need to do is add your gmail address to any new phone and presto, there back. This may not help you now but you'll never be here again.
