Galaxy S4 IR blaster?

Is this going to be a trend? I have bad memories of IR from my Palm devices.

I know you're talking about the IR blaster here, but by those pictures it just does not look thinner than the S3...

As for the IR blaster here, as long as it could possibly be used without the smart tv (my regular Samsung HDTV) that would be nice. Otherwise not worthwhile.
I already have smartglass for my xbox, and a separate controller for my uverse, so it would basically only be for volume

According to the article the thinking was:
