My S4 is seriously out of built-in as well as sd card space & I cannot delay this swap any longer than I already have. Anxiety has put it off too long. As I read about corruption, issues with lost data, you already know the list I've read about & I MUST do the switch without delays that I've already taken. Please, tell me IN DETAIL, the safest approach for accomlishing this task. I ran a SanDisk app that told me what to get- I already knew it was 64 & it turns out, that's all the app offered! (the results said it should be an ultra but a 64GB isn't made in ultra-calling SanDisk solved that issue). I have a legit SanDisk 64 GB card- it's all the chitchat regarding corruption that has me freaked plus the fact that I've never done this. I've done a lifetime's worth of things in that category but haven't been able to get myself off of STOP!
It would help to read what's presented as preferred approach to accomplish task! My PC can read card, I've got pictures on current card I'd like to keep-must be only on sd card but I could wait awhile to put the photos on it (if that's even an option-what do you recommend?)
Because phone memory's full, everything must go to new card (current card is equally full so situation is dire).
Please, get back to me with best approach as this must be done very soon! I'm serious that my time is gone.
Best way to do it, in what order so how you would do it? Thanks!

Backup entire old SD to your PC. Insert new 64GB SD in phone. Format in phone. Copy from PC to new card. Bada bing.

Transfer your 32 GB SD card files to a computer. Then transfer the files on computer to new SD card.

You can also save files to Dropbox or Box.

I agree with the above posts, but do a copy/paste.

From a SlimKat Tab 2....perhaps not far from you

Copy how from PC to phone? There are various appproaches but I'm not aware of upsides of or downsides of using whatever. What method will best eliminate errors? Does a substantial time differece exist between methods? USB vs doing transfer directly PC to SD card? Should I consider Kies method? What are benefits of which? The response, while I'm appreciative, didn't include enough detail. I need to hear what is not selected, then why-there HAS to be a reason for selecting a particular approach & because I've spent as much time as I have & I'm still having major issues with going forward-it is a subject where I am seeking detail with reasons for deciding one way over another.

Re: Must change 32SD to 64GB SD card but high anxiety, please help!

OK, do I format new card in phone first? I'm envisioning this situation that phone immediately starts to empty some of its contents to new card because it's so close to having no available space! I'm assuming there's no way to format other than putting it on phone, I need to know if alternate way exists that but if it needs to be formatted, in absence of any other method of formatting, it has to happen in the phone so, I'll format in it, pull it out, copy/paste from PC onto new card & then put it in S4 & hope I don't need to ask further questions.
You suggest this over using USB?

I've used Kies in the past and it doesn't always work properly.

This is what I would do if I wanted to save time and not lose anything.

(1) format new SD card in phone or computer
(2) connect phone with 64 GB SD card to computer via usb
(3) put 32 GB SD card in card reader and connect to computer
(4) copy and paste files from 32
GB card in card reader to new 64 GB card

Thank you, SactoKingsFan, for detailed answer. I appreciate it, especially regarding the Kies as I have little experience with it. The little bit it is has been fine but I never used it for anything that was critical that it work 100% correct. There's a serious part to this process where there's no margin for error. I'm seriously out of space in phone memory as well as space on sd card so, I must stop hemming, hawing...not productive but must DO THIS! Thank you very much for your help. I've been up all night, must get sleep before doing anything but then, it'll be time to have my mind made up & do it!

Best and Open Tip :

Buy an expensive 64GB card like Samsung's card , never go for cheap options by some unknown brands.

I am using sandisk card which is class 10.
Bought the card in January 2013 and used it on my Lumia 820 for 7 months and now on my galaxy S4 for like 6 months , zero issues

Yes, Sanjay Chandra, I DID just that- got a legitimate SanDisk 64 GB SD Card that will replace the 32GB SD Card that is currently in place but has more information contained than is healthy. The 32GB SD card served me well but my S4 needs a boost in this replacement 64GB SD card- as soon as I can gather the gumtion to proceed, the phone will be on to renewed vigor. I realize that it must be done before the update is released. There is currently insufficient available space for that update so I must take care of the health of this S4. I hope no more questions come to mind that delay this process even more- oh, I do have unanswered questions but I simply dare not allow it to delay this further. I've been working things out on the fly & need to do that some more in creating healthy condition for this S4 !

I'd advise taking a chill pill and regularly backing up your data.

I concur.

You're making this into something it's not. It's really very simple.

1. Plug phone unto pc via USB cord.
2. Select the option to "View files..."
3. Select all folders you want to copy.
4. Copy files and paste to selected location in pc
5. Unplug phone and change SD cards.
6. Plug phone into pc and select "view files..."
7. Go to where you pasted files/folders and Select folders/files you pasted onto pc.
8. Copy files and paste to phone/new SD card.
9. ........
10. PROFIT!!!

oh wait lol

Now, repeat the same steps for the files you want to transfer/copy from the phones internal memory to the new SD card.

Thanks to both TheStand9 & Blazer0981-
You both added comments that normally might help except that #1- it's atypical for me to be in this state & only when I'm not acting from position of strength have I ever felt vulnerable like I am right now. I waited too long- didn't realize space was catching up so quickly (or lack of), uninstalled huge #'s of apps & any other stuff that could be gone.
The list of errors, ways of avoiding this switch is a good one, except for essential one that I discovered once I went to PC, ready to bite the bullet. I had just 1 item to learn- that apparently once S4 went to 4.3- an oddity kicked in making S4 not able to be seen by pc (using USB)! I decided yesterday was THE day, went to pc but prior to hooking up USB, did quick search just to see if there might be anything I'd need to know prior to doing transfer. There was! That using USB wouldn't work since months ago when my Verizon S4 went to 4.3!
In all yrs of owning cell, I've done backups to multiple places so 'no way I could get caught in bad spot' but that's where I am! I'm so desperately out of space that I lack some functions, instead of doing the swap today I started trying to check places where Contacts list ought to sit & as intrusive as Google can be, in Gmail, it shows just 16 contacts! That's instead of thousands in my phone! I went to places I've backedup, but not found in Dropbox, Evernote, MyBackupPro, didn't think to check Clickfree til now so you can see, I haven't lacked for interest in backing up- these things didn't quit a month ago- only 2 wks ago.
I'm figuring now my remaining option that may work- unmount full 32GB SD, put contents on pc directly. Then format new empty 64GB SD in S4, unmount, transfer files to new sd card from PC, return to S4.
I wish I included a plan on how to move some important files (on internal memory) to pc while working on this-I'm open to suggestions.
I haven't used Kies since phone was new, forget where it's found but evidently, use of it along with USB in remaining way that corded connection works-I have 'Samsung Smart Switch' on PC but frankly, I spent so much time trying to find my Contacts list on any backup that I felt a break from this topic was in my best interest so I took it!
BTW, that info re USB not wking since 4.3 IS in this forum but I never saw it til tonight when looking for this thread.
Now it's a changed issue for my situation & feel free to offer updated opinions. This IS a mess but I hope to get past this while losing as little as possible or none, well, that feels like too much to hope for as outcome-just trying to be cautious-too late for being wise. Thanks for the help.
Apparently, once OS update comes, changes kick-in for what can be moved, SD-internal memory, I'm interested in knowing more about that- Verizon usually does us the favor of switching ours late- I've always been grateful for that as they add their software to it & it's a golden opportunity to fix stuff that doesn't function as expected- what's new in OS for moving files between sd & internal memory?
I look forward to seeing helps left for me as I will surely put this as #1 on list for action-nothing has higher priority. Thanks!
