Hey guys,
I originally got my S5 in August of last year (2014), and I've loved it ever since. However, just under 3 months later, I experienced a problem with the headphone jack of my phone. For some reason, the jack would no longer 'bite' when I plugged in headphones - no longer holding them in place. I took my phone to my local Samsung repair centre, and they charged me £50 to replace the entire outer housing (frame) of the phone, as apparently a part of the connection from a pair of my headphones had broken off inside the jack. I was told that this repair would have a two year warranty etc, and that if I had any further issues with it, I should take it back and they'd repair it. Cool.
Now, I have a different issue, but with the same component. Intermittently, the phone thinks that a pair of headphones are connected, when nothing is connected - meaning that at these times, I can't use the built-in speaker. Thinking that this could possibly be a software issue, I decided I'd do a full system restore on the phone - but to no avail. Has anyone had this problem?
I went back to the repair centre today, and they said that using headphones that weren't the original pair provided with the phone would cause the headphone jack to break, as they aren't compatible. I found this concept a little bewildering, as the use of the 3.5mm headphone connection is a universal convention, and should not cause any problems - especially using a pair of expensive AKGs. Can anyone shine any light on this idea too?
Thanks!
RyJ.
