According to him, with medium use, he took the phone off charge at 8AM, and by the time he got home at 5PM, the phone had 43% which is pretty decent.

He says light user but his description of his usage is more of a medium use imo

Usage included:
Taking pictures throughout the day - testing the HDR features
Testing the slow motion video function
Downloaded a 72mb app
Checking emails throughout the day
browsing menus and settings throughout the day
20 minute phone call

Sounds pretty impressive to me. My 2013 Moto X would be 10-15 percent. With root and tweaks it would be over 50%

Screen on time is stated to be 1:58. That's fairly poor if we are to look at a full charge discharging linearly, that only equates to roughly 4 hours of screen on time.

Of course, battery life varies between individual devices and users themselves so I wouldn't take this result as the definitive truth regarding battery life. I'm looking forward to user accounts here on the forums and standardized testing performed by the major review sites.

Yeah I'm with you. 4 hours screen time isn't stellar by any means. I'm expecting something more along the lines of 5 hours edging closer to 6.

Phone like the Xperia Z3 has pretty spectacular battery life, so while I'm not expecting exactly that, I would like the S6 to have better battery life than my current phone.

This. Currently I can push 3.5-4 hours onscreen with my nexus 5 and I don't consider that good by any means. I am really hoping the cumulative test results are 5.5-6 hours onscreen...but kinda have doubt's with such high pixel density and quad HD.

You might be surprised. I read an article that the screen of the S6 is 20+% more battery efficient than the screen on the S5 -- even with double the pixels. So we all might be in for a very pleasant surprise. And we all know about the energy efficiencies of the 14 nm exynos processor vs. the 810. So all in all this phone could shape up to have some pretty amazing battery life.

The Samsung design team has some pretty bright minds and were probably very mindful of making all the hardware as energy efficient as possible as battery life is such a huge issue. They knew the consequences of under-powering the device.

Where did he say 1:58 screen time? The way he described sounds like 3 hours at least till 43% left. Using camera a lot, especially with video, takes pretty high toll on any phone battery.

The fact that they went with a smaller battery also leads me to believe this, but like most we will have to wait and see what reviewers say during their tests. Since ill be getting this end of year, ill continue to keep an eye on the progression throughout the year.

I'm in for more surprises. Battery life varies for each individual users and so, will just wait for the reviews when actual standardized test have been made.

PPT is a common misconception that some folks have on power for display. It's mainly affected by absolute screen size and resolution. Higher those numbers, more power is needed for display. But PPT is not directly related to it. For example, 4" QHD will use less power than 6" QHD despite much higher PPT. Displaymate tested S6 screen to be more efficient than FHD screen of same size in S5, which is very good work by samsung.

Agree, if I'm home all day with my wifi/4g reception the battery lasts all day with 60% at bed time. Running around with poor reception and I get a half day use out of it. The battery is old (3 years) but the principle is the same.

"real user" is just one out of millions users.

Extremely vague usage, poor sot, better wait for gsmarena test result. That would tell more accurately if and how much s6 battery improved.

Every device iteration promises some great increase in battery life. I've always been disappointed.

I think it's all google's fault.

Hardwares were improved, but Google has made Android more and more demanding in its attempt to get everybody "connected" every minute of the day (or to turn everybody's minute to minute activity into an ad).

Same thing can be said for iOS. Each generation of ipad or iPhone the battery stays the same or increases/decreases marginally.

The 6 plus is the there exception... But it matches the note series in battery life.

This of course doesn't factory the battery and screen combos of Android that effect battery life one way or another.

The combo of trying to meet the ever increasing demands of users, along with the increase a number of apps that like to sync every hour.... Its surprising that the battery life has kept up.

That's where more energy efficient displays and processors as well as slimming down Android skins and bloat ware help in this area,
