Galaxy s6 edge unlocked call problem

I just got a Galaxy S6 Edge from a friend. It's an unlocked Verizon phone. I have AT&T service. It has a strange problem. When I receive a call from a existing contact or not, it puts a '+' in front of the number. Then when I try to call that person back, and click on the missed call, I get a recording that I don't have to dial 0 before making an international call! I'm not making any int'l calls. If I call the person directly from my contacts it goes through fine. I can only assume that the + is what is causing this problem since nothing else is different. My friend said to try turning off the voLTE feature, but I don't have that setting in my phone. Is there any solution to this? It's really annoying that I can't call back someone from my missed calls list! Thanks.

Change the "+" to "+1" and see how it works. All the numbers in my Contacts have +1 before the area code.

I don't know how to change that. The phone just seems to add the + or +1 to my contact when it comes in. I don't have it in an of my contacts in the phonebook.

Long press on the number you want to call back. It should show an option Edit number before call. When I do that it shows me the number without a "+" so if it shows on your phone just delete it.

Nope, I'm not getting any option to edit the number. When I go to recent calls and do a long press on the number, it just puts a check mark next to that for deleting numbers. GRRRR
