Galaxy S6 fails to recognize my fingerprint, now it won't recognize new PIN

A

AC Question

From 'My Galaxy S6 doesn't recognize my fingerprints and is asking for a backup password. How can I unlock my phone?" forum.

Had the same problem with fingerprint reader failing. I unlocked my phone using my google UID and PW and set up a new PIN (my old standby PIN). when i try to unlock using this new PIN, i kept getting the message that it was the incorrect PIN. The lock screen no longer displays the link to unlock using my google account so that option is out. I never registered my phone on samsung 'find my mobile' and google device manager told me i already had a PIN so those avenues are out. Anything new on this issue or am i destined to do a factory reset?

Welcome to Android Central! Was the new PIN you entered a backup PIN for the fingerprint scanner, or did you change the unlock method from fingerprint to PIN? (As you may know, the backup PIN for the fingerprint scanner is different from the standalone PIN unlock.)

I am having a similar problem. Out of the blue, none of my fingerprints are recognized (and I put 4 in). I can't remember which pin I used, though I've tried all the usual suspects and none is accepted. To make matters truly worse, I try to log in via my google account and it says wrong name and password OR it ignores the fact that I put the name & password in and says it can't recognize my fingerprint.

Any alternatives here besides a factory reset?

I just solved my problem. I have google two-step verification turned on. It turns out, if you have that turned on, you can't get into your phone using your password. I had to temporarily turn off the two-step verification. Then I was able to log in and reset my password.
