Galaxy S6 says overheating when it is not hot

Hi, in the past few hours my Galaxy s6 running marshmallow has started telling me that it is overheating and turns itself off. It also won't let me charge the phone. Has anyone had this problem before or found a solution for it? Thanks!

Could you screenshot it when it says its overheating and it may just be a bug in the software

I can't it won't let me use any apps other than the phone and contact because it says it is too hot. Then after a minute or so it starts shutting itself down

Have you tried a factory reset?

look inside the charging port and the headphones socket and see if theres something shorting the pins
