Galaxy S7 - Red light of death?

Hi Everyone

I own a Galaxy S7 (G930P). Bought it when I was in the US and was using the phone without any problems here in India until today. The phone was running out of battery (~13%) so I put it on charge and after I came back and checked my phone, the display wouldn't turn on and there is a constant red notification light (the one you get while charging the device).

Nothing seems to work for me. Have tried holding down the power button, holding volume down + power, volume down + Home + power, etc. None of the combinations work.

Please help!

Welcome to Android Central! How long did you leave it charging on a wall outlet? Let it charge overnight, and then try powering on again by pressing and holding Power for at least 10-15 seconds.

I left it for 30 minutes and the phone was incredibly hot when I touched it. I think if I let it charge overnight it might even blast (judging by how warm it became).

The problem is that I cant charge it since it starts heating up, the moment I plug in the charging cable.

Day 2 - Red light is still there and no key combinations work.

I asked a samsung representative via chat. She said it is under warranty. However, I'm not in the US where I bought this phone. Samsung won't provide any repairs in India where I'm using the device. Not sure what to do.

It sounds like your options are to somehow get the phone to the US for warranty repair, or bring it to a trusted local repair shop and pay them to open the phone up to replace the battery. Be forewarned, though, that I can't be certain the battery is the issue -- but it seems to be the most likely culprit.

Its not gonna Blast dude come on. Charge it for at least an hour. It'll stop getting got once it starts its charging process

I've seen this device overheat and it will shut down and become unresponsive. Let it cool and try and power it up later.

It depends on how hot it's getting. The OP said that it gets "incredibly hot," which is worrisome. If the battery is failing, then continuing to charge it could potentially lead to a fire or explosion, especially if the heat buildup reaches runaway status.

Yes, it starts getting hot within minutes of connecting the wall charger.. Do you think it's the battery or can it also be the motherboard at fault?

Day 3 - Red notification light is still on.. Phone still doesn't respond..

I'll have to send it back to the US somehow.. In my country, only the international variant (exynos) sells.. So if its anything other than the battery, I may not get replacement parts for it from the local service center

I'm not sure if there's an easy way to tell without opening the phone up and testing the components. My guess is that the technicians would test the battery first, since that's the cheaper component to replace.

I think I'm going to wait for a couple of months then. Will get this phone back to the US through a colleague/friend. Maybe the red notification light would stop showing up soon so that I can try and put it on charge and just maybe it would boot up again. haha.. Let's see.

Had the same just happen to me, I was in a call with very low battery around 10% and the phone a bit hot from having been tethering my connection, as soon as I hanged up phone went dark with the red led on top. I left it unplugged for a bit until the led turned off, let it cool off, plugged the charger back and it worked again. I let it charge to 70-80% first without powering it up then it has been ok since.
