Galaxy Tab A gets all of the notifications, S9 does not.

I have a Galaxy Tab A and a Galaxy S9 phone. Once I got the new tablet out of the box and set it up with my emails and message apps, suddenly my phone stopped giving me notifications of emails and messages even thought all options to receive these via badges and sounds are ON in all settings, main and individual app settings.

Instead, the tablet now seems to think it is the main device and all notifications and sounds are showing up there. It also seems odd that notifications will only come through on one device and not both but if I have to pick one, I want the notifications to come through on my PHONE. Any one else run into this? Ideas or solutions to fix?

Do you have bluetooth paired phone and tablet?
