i have seen a couple threads about this back from December and January about the galaxy tab being used in a car as the main head unit..and was wandering if anyone has any new info or new car install projects they have been working on and can post pics..i have a 06 civic si and would like ideas for a custom install, but havent found anyone with a civic and a galaxy tab..lol..just wandering what you all think of the Galaxy Tab as a main head unit?

mich1248,

I no longer have a Galaxy Tab but your post piqued my interest (I've been doing car-audio/video installations for about 15 years). How exactly are folks using the G-tab this way? AFAIK the G-tab lacks any type of line-level audio outputs, unless the install involves using the "Docking Adapter" which I believe has audio out (which is a 3.5mm only), or they are outright modifying its internals. (When I have more time I will search the boards for the posts you alluded to...)

So I have to say I'm scratching my head on how this is done...lol. Note that I have done a number of installs using MicroATX and BTX computer builds (running both Windows and Linux variants) as a central "brain"/head unit/media center", but I've not thought about an Android tablet in this capacity. I'd appreciate any info in this regard. Thanks!

ive seen a couple Galaxy tabs hooked through and amp and have an separate volume control..then most just custom installed in the dash but using the aux jack or bluetooth for audio input..im not sure if i want to part with the convenience of my car radio, but would love to have the Galaxy tab mounted securely, but removable in my car without it suctioned to my window..

This guy posted this over on XDA:
Galaxy TAB in car (Alfa Romeo MiTo) LINK

Here's another example: Galaxy Tab in car LINK

I've tried a few music players on my 7" Galaxy Tab, and the ones that work good horizontally are Btunes, Lithium, and Mortplayer.

thanks for the examples..very interested in doing this but not sure if i wanna get rid of the radio already in it..need to brainstorm to find a good way to have both with a clean custom install..just hate those suction cup on the window..
