Android Central Question
I bought the Samsung Galaxy Watch with a separate/dedicated number in order for it to be completely stand alone. Now I am however learning that the watch is never really stand alone, at least not if you want to use the full functionality.
My observations so far:
- When disconnected from Bluetooth and Remote connection (check box in Account section of the Wear app), the Watch still works fine to send/receive calls to the dedicated number. But it is not possible to locate the Watch using the GPS tracker, which is very disappointing.
- When connected to Bluetooth and/or with Remote connection enabled, most features work BUT when sending Texts (SMS) from the Watch, they are actually sent via my Phone (which was used to do the initial config for eSim, etc.). Sending Texts/SMS to the Watch number is not possible (they are sent with no errors from other phone but never received on the Watch). Also, all messages sent to my Phone number are also sent to the Watch, which I obviously do not want since I want the Watch to be as detached as possible from my Phone.
Obviously I was wrong in my understanding of how the Watch worked with a dedicated number and the Store people also seem clueless as to the functionality.
My original plan was to have my son use the Watch so that we could call him and also see where he is located on a map.
Finally, do you guys have any suggestions for how I can achieve the following with the Galaxy Watch:
- Make and receive calls to the Watch number (works!).
- Send messages to the Watch directly, without any syncing to my Phone. A separat chatt app would be fine.
- Be able to Geo/GPS locate the Watch using my Phone.
- No syncing of anything from my Phone (no emails, texts, etc.)
