Gallery Automically imports images

Hi,
I don't know if this is specific to the Inspire, but the installed gallery app automatically pulls images and imports them from my SD drive. I assume there must be a way to change this, because now I have an app that keeps photos on the SD and they're being pulled into the gallery. Annoying. What am I missing? Can I get these photos to not show up in gallery?

Whatever pictures you dont want to show up in the gallery, put in separate folder with a period before the folder name ie .foldername the gallery wont find it then.

I thought about that. It won't cause any problems? I thought .X folders were special OS folders. (I'm new to Android and don't know much, anything, about this stuff.
