Gave up on fingerprint system

Have others had trouble with the finger print system? I found moderately unreliable. Once when it did not work, it locked up my phone for a while. That would have been a big problem in an emergency. So I deleted it.

Wow... my experience is that it works 99% of the time for me. I wonder if your sensor might be defective.

When you set it up, and it asked you to hold your finger to it several times, did you just use the exact same part of that fingertip every time? If so, try reconfiguring it and using different areas of the fingertip so that you don't have to be 100% precise as to pressing that exact part against the sensor.

I did that with middle and index fingers on both hands and have not had any failures at all.

Never had any issues. Not even on the Nexus 6p. I have both of my index fingers registered in my pixel xl and it works perfectly regardless of how I put my finger on the sensor. Also the same for my bank, PayPal etc when I sign in.

It's one of the things I actually do like on this phone. Works great!

The only phone or tablet I gave up on are Samsung S5 which was their first attempt so I guess it's understandable but most recent is their Tab S2. Both were easy to set up but unreadable afterwards. I ended up turning them off.

Anyways, every other toy I owned have been flawless including my Pixel XL.

Whenever I set up a fingerprint I wash my hands and make sure they're dry. :)

So far it hasn't failed me once. I place and bam.. phone unlocked.

My experience wasn't great either. Worked great for several days, then one day, phone locked up, and when I tried to reset the print scanner, it would never take my left hand pointer finger. I'm not a big fan of having my devices locked down tight, don't use lock screen either. I did enjoy my auto log-in with the BOA app. Phone seems snappier without all the security stuff...

Thanks for the feedback. A while back when I got fingerprinted for a license, they had trouble getting good (digital) prints from me. So it may be that I just don't have very prominent finger prints. I may give it another try with Jeremy's suggestion.

Because of the location of the scanner being on the back I only use the pointer finger on both hands, but I go thru the scanning process 2x for each finger. The first time I try and repeat the process in a consistent manor that I would use it. Just straight up and down and a little movement but mostly just the way the phone fits in my hand and my finger hits the scanner. the second time I am searching for odd ways to place my finger down. Upside down, the very tip mostly edge, stuff like that.

For me the scanner is 99.99 and when it doesnt work I am usually the issue.

I have yet to have a fingerprint failure, and I can't imagine how many times I've unlocked my phone in the past weeks, hundreds if not thousands I'm sure. It even worked with sweaty hands, which was impressive.

If you have issues, re-train your fingers or RMA it. It should be working every single time. Also when you train it make sure you press it like you actually do when you unlock it.

Mine actually failed the other day. It just would not recognize either index finger even after restarting the phone. I deleted my scans (I had 2 for each index finger) and redid them (with just 1 scan for each index finger). I haven't had any issues since.

I have a 99% success rate with mine. If it doesn't work its usually because of my error. Works just as good if not better than LG's and Apples.

Yeah, mine has been great. I do scan the same finger twice. Index finger on both hands and middle finger on my right hand once.
