I plan on keeping my gear on my wrist this winter. Anyone know how cold it can get before it gets damaged from it? So far this has been a very useful device.

Shouldn't your body heat keep it warm enough to not be an issue? I would guess body heat and the appropriate clothing covering your wrist in times of extreme cold should suffice to protect the watch, dontcha think?

Actually no. I plan on using it snowmobiling. Figure 25 degrees at best and -25 at worst plus windchill since my new sled doesn't have much in the way of protection. Going to use back country navigator since it works well with the gear 2. It is tight but I can wear the gear on the outside of my wrist liner. I had a Garmin freeze before but it was on a handle bar mount. Riding across frozen lakes cruising over 80 and screwing with the ice fisherman it would be nice to use the gear for finding the trail head again.

I've frozen LED/LCD displays before with no damage. I once dropped an LCD watch in the snow and it sat out overnight at 20 below and the display was OK. I left a camera with a LED display out in my garage at 10 below for a day and it was OK too.

I'm not sure about OLED displays though.. I've never frozen one of them. I imagine they'd survive too. I don't think you'll hurt yours if it's on your 98 degree wrist and covered with clothing while you're out in the cold.

Out of interest, I checked the manual that came with the watch. Usually they give a maximum/minimum temperature for the device, but I don't see that in the Gear 2 manual.

I didn't either. The gear will be exposed since my liner will be under the band. Any gaps in your clothing in that weather will leave your skin black from the frost burn.
