My pal wants to buy a Gear S, but doesn't have a in service Galaxy phone to pair it with.
He does have a Galaxy S3, but it is no longer active.
He's using a nexus 5 with T-Mobile service, and wants to buy the Gear S from T-Mobile too.
His question, he still can surf the net, and access his gmail, Facebook, and twitter on the S3 using his WiFi, so.......can he use the S3 on Wi-Fi to install the gear app, and pair the S to the S3?
He wants to use the Gear as a solo device for emergencies only, not to stay paired with the S3.
Will he be able to check, and reply to his gmail?

Using the net directly for each.
Responding to Facebook and Twitter is not important to him, but gmail, texting is.
