Gear S2: We can use our smartphone's nano sim card for connection to cellular networks?

Wouldn't buy it unless it has a sim card slot. To me that would be taking a step backwards from the watch I already own.

1.2" screen? That's it? And round means it'll have even less usable screen.
That's just nuts for what the S1 is capable of doing now and trying to do it on a screen half its size.

Can someone confirm we don't need a separate phone number for the 3g standalone variant? If we do, can we use our Gear S number? Reportedly, TMobile will charge $5/mo for the plan, same price as the Gear S.

Of course you do. There is no difference than Gear S. The only thing that is different from the uncomfirm report is that it contains eSIM which means it doesn't have a physical SIM slot but rather a software SIM.

Ok, That's not worth updating the Gear S for unless you just have to have a smaller round screen. Nothing in those specs looks to be any kind of even the tiniest upgrade.

It's definitely a downgrade from my Gear S: no GPS, no user accessible SIM, smaller screen.

Looks like a working Gear S in good condition will retain it's value for a while longer. Good news if you are an owner, bad news if you are looking for the price to go down with the release of the GearS2.
Still happy I got it. Satisfied a "Lust" that just wouldn't quit. Now, after many years, I am finally calming down. I have a good collection I was able to justify in some way, even if each one is not constantly in use. I kind of just cycle through, picking them up as needed at the moment.
What I fear is replacing a device. It looks like the new version of my BT is different, the S Gear 2 is different. I usually do ok with phones, but it looks like some Note 5 wanters are disappointed. My tablet and PC are secondary items I don't use as much, and the laptop I tried to designate for Work only. I tried to update the laptop to Win 10, but couldn't due to license, so I installed Linux Mint instead. Even updates can completely change your device.
I am going to try not to run out and buy the new Windows Phone 10 flagship as soon as it is released. But if a get a chance, and nobody at home is paying attention, I will probably try to sneak it in. I already started dropping hints.
And if I am using the S Gear as intended, standalone with a SIM card, then it won't matter what phone I choose to carry, or not carry.
Sorry, I am a Windows Phone fan at heart.
