Some fairly newbie questions, and I'm on the latest update for the watch and finally got off the August security patch for the phone at the beginning of January (poor show Samsung)

1: I thought I read a post about Samsung Health automatically monitoring heart rate when you started any exercise but I can't find it now. Does it exists as an option and if so where?
2: Apart from steps does the Note get any other data from the watch in Samsung Health as I'm struggling to find anything unless I press the button on the phone to take a reading?
3: On the watch, for heart rate, I get never (useless without question number one being an option) frequent - every 10 minutes might trash the battery? or always - definately trash battery life!

Thanks for your time and replies.

1. You answered the first question with number 3, which I was going to try and help with.
2. All your exercises, steps and water. You have to realize the S3 can track your steps because the watch is moving. And should be able to give you a record of calories burned, to some degree. You can also track the number of cups of water or caffeine, if you enter on your watch. It can't track the food you eat and how many carbs, fat or protein you intake.

I use my watch for steps and to a lesser degree, water intake. I track my food thru myfitnesspal

Yes I use my fitness Pal for calories too.
So there is no auto function that starts to monitor heart rate when you start an exercise?
Pity, that would have been great.
As a matter of interest, how do most of you have it set on your watch, never, frequent or constant? And what does it do to your battery consumption?

Actually when you start activityin any fitness app it turns on hr monitoring (Samsung Health, Endomondo, Pear). The only thing is you need to start activity manually. Anyway you can make a shortcut by doubleclick the lower button or place a widget.

Many thanks - that was the bit I was missing! I rarely if ever start an exercise - it just starts counting my steps automatically but doesn't monitor anything else. Now I understand.

Thanks.

If you've been moving for 10 mins, the auto-detect kicks in and starts tracking. Pretty nice when you're playing basketball with the kiddo and watch vibrates and tells you to keep it up!
