Gear Watch Designer question

Finally back to Android with S6 Edge and Gear S2. Still learning the watch, but found some gdw faces I tried to install, but it will not find my phone when scanning.

I am using Mac El Capitan, watch debugging is on, on same WiFi network, tried with bluetooth on and off.

Bought a few watch faces from Gear store but I would like to add these. Any help would be appreciated.

The watch is what GWD needs to locate. Make sure watch is showing up on your wifi router. Also you can manually put in the IP address of the watch from your router. Debugging on...bluetooth off. I wish GWD would work for me.

I had all that done. Checked IP and all. I will have to try it again, or maybe try from a Windows machine.

In what way did GDW GWD not work for you?

GWD is very buggy on Windows 10. However, in the last few days I have been able to get some faces to my watch. It seems to have a lag time that I need to account for.
Also, make sure the Author and Distributor Certificates are signed in.
You will need to enter your Author AND Distributor certificates EVERY time you open Gear Watch Designer in order to successfully install watch faces.
I personally avoid using the "run on device" button in GWD. It likes to freeze and sometimes doesn't even bother to work.
This face installation guide was a great help. Gear Watch Designer Face Installation Guide | Samsung Gear S2
This youtube video helped also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoYykc6vqzQ

What's GDW?

He meant GWD. It stands for Gear Watch Designer. A tool for creating watch faces for Samsung Gear S2 without the need for coding, the software is available for download free for PC users and MAC. The software tool does have a cool interface that will make it easy for a novice user and designer to easily learn the ins and outs of the tool, there is also a tutorial to get you started right away in designing your own watch face and distribute it as a .tpk file in Samsung Gear Store. According to Samsung, with the software you can; “Create individual elements using design tools, and assemble them from Gear Watch Designer. Gear Watch Designer provides end-to-end user experience from watchface development to store upload.”

When I have more time I have to figure this out. I want a simple digital face with notifications, date and weather.

A digital watchface with date is really easy in GWD, but notifications and weather are not possible yet. You can only add shortcuts on the main watchface to open the apps. GWD is still beta so maybe in a later release they will add notification and weather complications to display this stuff directly on the main watchface.

I'm gonna take a shot at this, too. Managed to get it installed and running on a Win 10 machine, but haven't come close to trying to load a watch face to the watch yet. Looks interesting, though.

I have found some cool watch face GWD files online. I think I did only the author certificate though, so maybe that is why I did not connect to my phone even though it was on the same WiFi network. I got GWD installed and running without a hitch, but is just the connecting to the phone that is the issue.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! it was very helpful!!

Like al czervik said: "Notification and weather are not available, yet". I know a lot of the designers are asking for these complications so GWD might have them in an update, soon. When they become available, I'm sure these guys and gals will be the first to know. https://plus.google.com/communities...7/stream/5e5c2642-4d33-4220-9afd-e88af11bedc8

I wonder what it is about the weather function that gives Samsung so much trouble. It's been buggy since day one.

I was able to connect to the watch, build and run the install but got the Error 78 when trying to install. I only have a Mac to try it on.

I know I am almost there. Any suggestions?

I was going to install it on my iMac until I got to the part about Java. I had a somewhat traumatic experience with Java Runtime when I first got that machine. Had nothing to do with GWD, but I just refuse to mess around with anything Java related on Mac.

I am running it now on Win 10 machine, a Surface Pro 3, and have finally managed to install a couple of faces to the watch. Ended up using Run on Device to get it done, but it wasn't easy. Aside from various connection problems between the watch and computer, the 12" monitor screen is just painful to use for any kind of design work.

At any rate, I'm hopeful that Samsung will eventually iron out the bugs and get it out of beta. I don't have any interest in distributing my designs, but it'd sure be nice to have exactly the look and functions that I want.

I'm happy with the way it's running on the Win 10 machine, just wish I had a larger screen to work on. Still working on understanding how some of the tools work (color, for instance, just isn't making sense to me), but connecting and putting the face on the watch is working fine now. Seems to have ironed itself out after the first successful attempt. I'll post an example after a few more tweaks.

I don't understand all of it either, but I am able to download the watch faces made here: Home and get them to the watch. Once I got the "sequence" down, it works fine. I just got the 3G (I have the Sport) and because the 3Gs don't have the updates yet, I do have to lower the security to medium before building and putting the face on the watch.

I followed all the steps but it would fail while installing. I set up a PC to try it out. There are some really cool faces around!
