General Inbox Shortcut

Day 1 Droid user. Been using Blackberry for the last 5 years.

I am looking to have a shortcut for a general e-mail and text message inbox on my home screen. I've got the 'messaging' icon on my home screen, but I have to tap that, and then tap the universal inbox once in there.

Anybody know how to get the 'universal inbox' right on my home screen? Thanks

Im really not quite sure there is a way. Maybe an app you can download, that adds email/text messages together. HTC had some good widgets for that on their Sense UI, search for something like that in the market.

Didnt want to start a new thread, but is there a way to mark all messages as read?

I dont believe there is with the stock gmail app on the phone. Prob only can do that via computer. You can try a market app, it may have more options. I hear K-9 Mail is a good one but I have never used it.
