Geotag photos?

I turned off geo tagging on my photos, and now I can't get it turned back on. No option in Camera. In Gallery, I have it turned on. Have rebooted, no help.

Any suggestions?

The option to GeoTag pictures can only be in the Camera Settings. The Gallery doesn't control that. Even if you use a 3rd party app, it's up to that app to add GeoTagging info to the picture taken or not.

On your camera if you press the Gear icon, is there a Location setting or is it grayed out?

Nothing related to location appears...that's my problem.

In the Gallery, I can access and turn on "tag buddy" for location, but that doesn't work.

The setting is location tag, you need to scroll down through the settings to find it. In the camera settings

There is no such option...I have looked through both mine and my wife's and that is not an option in either camera.

The only location option I have in either S5 is the "tag buddy".

That option is only to automatically tag friends in photos, but will not write any actual data to them and will not affect geolocation information added to each picture.

Are all of your location settings active on your phone? Can you try downloading a third party camera and see if you have a location setting there? You can also try clearing your camera app's cache/data and see if that resets the settings and makes the switch show up. It won't be in the Gallery Settings, it will be on the Camera app's settings, nowhere else.

I went into applications, camera, and deleted cache and data...still the same. When I have the camera settings open, I only get thumbnails for the options, none of which have anything to do with location.

This is frustrating as I can see an individual photo's information, and location is there, just not populated. So the option is there, somewhere, just not readily available to turn it on/off.

And GPS is active, I've been in that several times to check...

Some camera settings are only available if you are using Standard Mode in the phone's settings. See page #38 of the Samsung User Manual on how to change settings for this.

Many of the camera settings issues here are because people don't immediately see the setting they are looking for.

When you open your camera's settings, you need to scroll down - there are two full pages of settings, you should see a long line on the right side of the screen. The setting you are looking for is titled "Location Tags"

There are not two full pages of settings, there is only one and only part of that page has settings.

I'm in standard mode...

Do you see settings similar to this screenshot? Are you saying that you cannot scroll up/down to see more settings? The first screenshot is what I see when I open the CAMERA, then go to SETTINGS. The second screenshot is what I see after I scroll up.

Do this when you open the CAMERA, not the gallery/photos app.

I don't have an S5, but i did have an S3 and I know that there was a way with that phone to change from the standard mode into a simpler mode, so maybe there is something similar with the S5 that allows you change it and have more options/control over setting? I don't know if you have looked into it at all, just an idea. I also looked into it and found a few resources. This shows how to turn location tag on/off in the S5: Samsung Galaxy S5 - Use camera. (but it sounds like you might have done this already. And there is some info here how to turn location on/off more general for androids: Geotagging Photos: Tag Location to Images with PaintShop Pro
I hope this helps.
Best of luck.

I rebooted, and was able to make that screen slide. Both phones were "locked" and we're being prevented from scrolling that screen. Both recently had updates, and I'm thinking that might have been the issue since a battery pull was necessary. I knew there was an easy setting...

Thanks for all your assistance.

This drove me crazy this morning. There simply was no "location tags" setting that I could see. My settings looked similar to the screen shot above, but it would not change to a second page, and certainly was not the exact same set of options. This appears to be because I was holding the phone in portrait orientation as I usually do. When I rotated the phone to "wide" mode, all of a sudden, I could get a second page of settings, and there was the "location tags" switch. Sheesh.......

I have same issue. Same Galaxy S7 phone, latest Android OS, same camera app, at the same event in the same location (outdoors where GPS signal is plentiful) = some photos have GPS location and some do not ... seems random when it works and when it does not. Must be an Android software bug. HAS ANYONE ROOT-CAUSED THE ISSUE?

My Samsung Note 10+ has the exact same issue. Some have GPS data and Some Do Not, they could have been taken seconds apart or minutes apart. Have not found the cause yet, where is Samsung on this?

Hi, welcome to AC!

Do you have location permissions on for Samsung gallery?
