Get a new battery for a device, or upgrade?

So I have a Note 8, it's probably about 3, 3.5 years old. I've had it for two, someone else had it for a year and a half. Great condition, but the battery has been used so much and recharged so many times it's dropping a lot quicker now. I'm honestly just wondering if it's better to upgrade or replace the battery?

If you can afford a new phone that's probably the better way to go. But if you want to save some money or just like the phone I wouldn't hesitate to have another battery put in it. I just stopped using my 2016 pixel running Android 10 2 weeks ago...up till that point I had absolutely no issues or worries using it security related or otherwise. But I also never ran any third party apps on it. Didn't open strange texts, strange emails, strange links, kept everything updated (Chrome, Play Protect, Gmail etc) and it served me extremely well

You've definitely gotten a good use out of your Note 8 - along with your money's worth! I too would recommend upgrading to a new device - especially since there may be other variables that may eventually contribute to your phone not working as efficiently - like software and other hardware issues.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

If I upgrade though, I'd probably just go up one notch to a Note 9. The last time I had the new hotness phone was literally my first smartphone, the HTC Thunderbolt.

Same with me.... my first cutting edge smartphone was my Moto X Pure Edition, I really enjoyed that phone. I still have it and it still works great, I use it to sync my Fitbits on wi-fi. I tend to jump up 2 notches, I just went from a pixel 1 to a 3xl, probably next phone will be a pixel 5 or 6. I like having flagships without paying the flagship price, so I pick them up factory sealed, but 1-2 years old ;)

Been on the Note 9, running smoothly. Love the 3.5mm Jack. Have had three battery replacements, paid for by VZ extended warranty. I'm a very hard phone user, mostly business. Ubreakitifixit has done a fine job. If I can get a huge deal on a Note 20 Ultra, I'll trade. Otherwise will continue to rock the 9.

I would get a new device personally. I highly recommend the Note 10 Plus over the Note 9. You can find them at pretty good prices used. It's not super old, will still be getting updates for awhile, has faster charging, more RAM, more internal storage, larger screen, wide angle camera, and you can pretty much do all things on the N10+ than you can do with the Note 9, that is, with the exception of the headphone jack and iris scanner and I'm sure a few others. Best device I have ever used honestly.

I used to miss the headphone jack, but it comes with the USB C headphones. So no big deal there. And when listening to music in the car, I use a USC type C to 3.5 MM aux cable. Problem solved.

I got mine Factory Unlocked and Certified, Pre-owned from Samsung for a little bit under 700.

Possibly. Considering on Swappa it's going for about what my Note 8 cost me. Got some potential dental bills first, need to see how much that might be before then doing some tech upgrades.

That's pretty awesome (about the phone, not potential dental bills!). Keep us in the loop, and hope you are okay!

If the OLED screen isn't burnt-in and the phone is in otherwise great condition and the battery replacement is fairly inexpensive, then sure do it, even if it's to keep it as a backup phone. Cause a Note 8 isn't worth much in the used market anymore.

Thankfully, the dental bills will be rather small. FFS, a used Note 10 will be a bit less. So it's looking a lot more likely. I do admit reading that the Note 10 doesn't have a microsd card slot is annoying, but it has so much storage space that I shouldn't worry too much.

I guess if price is an issue for you, go with the Note 10. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. The regular note 10 is basically a Oneplus device with an S-pen in terms of what it offers. The 10 plus is a much better choice. If you look around you can find it for a decent deal. Currently on Samsung's website, they have the 10 plus for 650 on sale. I also checked into if you traded in your Note 8. They would give you currently around 175 bucks which would drop the device down to 475 bucks. That's really not too bad at all IMO, but what may work for me may not necessarily work for you.

Phones are definitely getting expensive these days - and dental bills too! Let us know what you decide!

Yeah, well, since I can't update my line or I lose my OG unlimited plan, plus, phones cost a lot even through carrier. I miss the 2 years deal get a phone cheaper.

Since it's almost back to school time (eek!), you may be able to find some good deals going on in the August/September months!
