Get out of ETF - Switch Carriers?

Hey guys! New user here, posted this on XDA but wanted to get android central's opinion as well, both places have really knowledgable members! Not trying to troll or anything.

So I'm a few days past my preliminary 30 day trial so to speak, and have the Epic Touch 4g. I love the phone, it's amazing, but I'm sure I speak for many when I say we're all really dissapointed with the antennas on this thing, and sprints coverage in general.

My 3G speeds never go past the 1.5 meg mark, and that in itself is rare. the 4g is non-existant, worse than 3g. At work I roam a good 75% of the time. And to make matters worse, all these rumors about the Touch 4g not supporting this new Rev B adds insult to injury.

So - I remember seeing a few people a while back, when I had the evo 3d (which i traded in for this phone) say they got out of their ETF by pretty much telling Sprint Reps that the recent fee increase voided their contract (Sprint's Ts&Cs change: how it affects you | tech adhd)

So I'm SERIOUSLY considering attempting this, and just jumping ship and going to another carrier. We only have until the 9th it seems to try and get out of the contract (you have 30 days to attempt this, fee increase was implemented on the 9th of sept i believe).

What do you guys think? Im contemplating sticking around till the 7th to see what the big announcement from Sprint will be, but I doubt whatever changes will be immediate and we'll start seeing better data anytime soon..

Verizon would be great obviously, theyre the fastest out there as far as I know, but of course the most expensive. Att & T mobile I dont know much about, dont know how good their coverage is in my area (las vegas, nv). I get such a good employee discount with sprint, theyre cheap, the phone is great, i just wish we had better coverage!!

Since I like the galaxy s 2 so much, im considering att, id only be paying about 85 bux a month for 450 minutes (dont need unlimited minutes really, i rarely ever talk) and about 4 gigs worth of data (i know i know, not unlimited, but hey just bringing up pricing in case anyone was interested)

If you're on Sprint, they changed the roaming agreements(bastards!!!) so pretty much if you had unlimited roaming before, ETF is waived. it is for me, I made damn well sure of that.

I'm just waiting for either the next iphone on ATT or Verizon or the GSII on tmobile.

Why t mobile rather than at&t if you dont mind me asking? T mobile i think has the next best prices next to sprint, but I thought at&t was going to acquire them anyway?

Not familiar with their speeds, i think t mobile has unlimited (with caps at 5g) for 90, as opposed to having at&t with 4 gigs and 450 anytime minutes at around 85 or so, not sure if that includes texts. Im sure verizon is up there with at&t as far as pricing, but speed wise theyre the fastest

decisions decision! i was hoping it would work out with sprint, damn it, i still want it to!

I'm not sure about The Miz's reason for wanting to go to T-Mo, but they had the best customer service among all carriers in my experience. Additionally, their service is a lot better than many people give them credit for. Yes, they are the smallest carrier, but smallest does not always mean worst.

The AT&T acquisition is still up in the air, and a DOJ trial has been set for 2/13/12 to further discuss the merger. So right now, it is far from a done deal.

I have had nothing but trouble with Verizon since I bought a Thunderbolt in March and have convinced them to waive half my ETF. I really want to go back to T-Mo as they tend to have some pretty awesome phones, but am hesitant due to the possible acquisition...or what will happen if it is blocked.

Sprint sent down a corporate memo to reps forbidding them from letting people out over the recent changes. There is a big thread about this on Sprintusers.com. You might still get a sympathetic rep, but most folks are finding none.

The return policy is 14 days now unless you happened to have gotten the phone before the official launch date.

Another thing worth noting is that the T mobil version of the Galaxy S II is not going to have the Exynos processor. They are going to have the dual Snapdragons instead, so if love this phone, it might not be the same phone on t mobil.

I don't care. Snapdragon is still fast. And I am choosing Tmobile because they have far better prices and data plans than ATT does otherwise I'd switch to ATT.

But all of that is contingent upon the iphone if it turns out to be better than the iphone 4

Do you live in the sticks somewhere? I ask because I lived in Vegas for all of last year and I could get a decent 4g signal in many parts of the city. So I can't exactly agree with your comment that 4g is non-existent in Vegas. It's definitely a 4g market for Sprint. Are you on the outskirts or something?

Don't waste much time trying to get out without the early etf. I tried like 4 or 5 different times, to the community "sfhub" is correct they puta stop to that after everyone abused it because the legal limit there allowed to raise the tax on our plans before it's considered a "material change" is 1.99! Unfortunately were still under that therefore not eligible to jump ship without the etf. Justa headz up to the community if anyones still willing to try this.. As far as providers are concerned, I'd go Tmo also there def. Fast& most affordable next to sprint! test drive the networks& see which works best for you...

No sir! I live maybe 10 minutes away from the strip, 10 minutes away from the airport, same with work. Every sprint rep ive spoken with have told me I should have great coverage at both places, but right now, at work, im roaming. My phone is a paper weight.

I guess at this point I may just tough it out, and seeing as how Im constantly roaming, try and see if I can get out that way. I may try and get out of the ETF as well, because im getting so frustrated with this spotty service.

A coworker of mine said he had extremely spotty coverage with t mobile, edge data speeds, etc. bah, i may have to try it myself though.

Edit: When did this change in unlimited roaming happen? Im barely on my 35th day of service or so, so I may have signed up before this change was put into effect, which would give me probable reason to get out of the ETF.. but im guessing sprint has to contact me for excessive roaming first.

And Sprints any better lol? Spribt has unlimited data, but it does no good if you can't get coverage or poor data speeds, as indicated by AC in their review. And Sorint wanted to cut several accounts with a lot of data roaming.

What are you guys talking about... the roaming part changed?

I came from a WebOS Pre, and we had free roaming. Are you saying when I upgraded to the S2, I lost my 'free' roaming?

And how can I confirm this information?

Why don't you just wait it out, I'm pretty sure sprint is rolling out rev b with the network vision plan if not when the towers are combined things are going to be way better you just need to be patient and trust me if we do get rev b there is no way they will leave the epic touch in the cold. Also after you wait a bit if things don't turn out right root your phone and get roam control from the market and just force you're phone into roaming for 2 straight months and sprint will cancel your contract for you no etf for using to many roaming minutes.
