Just started recently. Must have ticked off something when rummagaing through the options trying to fix another issue. Any ideas what I did, or what is going on?

Quick question: In your Gmail app > Settings > your account (one with priority inbox enabled), under Email notifications tap "Ringtone & vibrate"... is the "Notify once" option checked or unchecked?
Another thought occurred to me... also in settings for your account, under Manage labels, check the notification settings for both "Inbox" and "Priority Inbox"... make sure only one of the two has notifications enabled.

Oddly enough my last posting did not show up.

Yes, Ring and Vibrate is set to once.
However in "Manage Labels" both inbox and priority inbox are set to notify once. Is this where it comes from??

So, since I didn't really understand, I googled "What is priority inbox in gmail" and the top four links made me think that it is an OPTIONAL spam filtering scheme, which I don't need. My next google search: "How to disable gmail priority inbox".

EDIT: According to some online articles, my gmail account ON MY COMPUTER has all the correct settings to NOT have priority flagged email.

In "Manage Labels" I unchecked the option to notify once on priority inbox. We'll see if that does it.

I think you'll want to also uncheck notifications entirely for one or the other. The key, from what I've been reading, is that you want to set notifications to come from only one source; either 'Inbox' (for notificiation on all emails, including any that are labeled for Priority), or 'Priority Inbox' (for notifications on just these emails), not both. The "notify once" just controls whether you get a single line item in your notification bar when emails arrive, rather than multiple notifications if multiple emails arrive.

All of my email, including spam, does not amount to enough to need a special filtering scheme. I just want the "priority" feature to go away entirely. At least, I think these changes will stop the double notifications.

Oh, well, if you want the "priority" designation to go away entirely, then in Gmail Settings > your account > just uncheck the main "Priority Inbox" entry (1st in the list) and then in "Manage labels" section just make sure Priority inbox does not show any notifications settings. Then you should be "back to normal". :)

Thanks, "back to normal" is what I guess I was really shooting for. Too bad we can edit thread titles after the fact to read what we really meant for future searches.

I know what you mean about the thread title editing. It's a sentiment that has been expressed by quite a few. I'm just glad we have the ability to edit our own posts. I don't know how many times I've read what I submitted and thought "*Doh!* (or *expletive deleted*) that's not really what I meant."

well hey, I didn't even realize there was a separate notification schema for priority. There wasn't originally. That's nice, I might turn that on. I'm okay not being notified for random newsletters, Yankees begging people to buy playoff tickets, and the other non-priority stuff that comes through.
