Hi,

First I am a newbe at upgrading phones and am still in the process of learning the lingo so I'd appreciate if you'd talk to me like I'm 5 :)

To make a long story short, while trying to upgrade my wife's Epic 4G (SHP-D700) I managed to almost brick the thing. I was just about to chuck the phone and buy a new one when the Android God gave me a pass and it started working on what I think is Gingerbread 2.2.1 (Firmware version) with FROYO.EC05 as the Build number. I brought it home all proud of myself and gave it to the Mrs. She had it about 5 minutes when the complaints started about how different it looked from the version that used to be on there. So before I try and upgrade the ROM to the latest I thought I'd ask the pros for some help.

So simply put, how do I get the latest stable version of Gingerbread (not JB) on this phone and if it was rooted that would be fantastic as I bought apps like Titanium Backup which needs the phone to be rooted to work.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.:)

I'm not expert enough to give step by step. You're gonna need to do some research and a lot of reading on these boards. You are in the right place. Check out the stickys in this forum. There is one about rooting GB and one about a stock GB ROM that is rooted which sounds like what you want.

I've switched to Verizon, but set up this Epic 4G for my daughter to play with. I'm running CM 10.1, Android 4.2.2., so her OS is more up to date than many folks out there.

Once the phone is rooted with a custom recovery like CWM, it's easy to flash different ROMs. You need to be careful about going backwards though as the file systems change.

Good luck.

I'M BUYIN LOTTERY TICKETS TONIGHT.

After many tries and what appeared at the time to be holding a bricked phone I finally got 2.3.6 GB on this phone.

My thanks to Windfrenzy for letting me know that people really DO respond.

Thanks again
