Getting much better battery life since i changed theme i think

Sounds strange but yesterday i changed to one of the new themes called Cogul Black.

Dont have any numbers to back my claim up but it certainly has lasted longer so far in my working day. Worth a try

AMOLED screens last longer with darker colors, especially if TRUE black elements are used (remember, these panels actually turn off the pixels to show blacks, so veeeery minimal energy is used to display those). A lighter theme (thank you, Material Design...grrrr) will drain your battery a lot faster due to the screen.

Also, if you have themes with a lot of graphical elements or animations, that will also drain your battery a bit faster than plain, dark themes.

That explains it then and i didnt think about that, well i advise anyone to try Cogul black then lol

That, would make sense with having a dark theme. The screen isn't having to light up all those pixels. Saves on battery life throughout the day.

Just remember, this works only on AMOLED panels. LCD's do need to light up all pixels in the screen, no matter what you're displaying.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in here, but I kind of doubt there would be a huge difference in battery life. From the screenshots I've seen, the screen uses at most 15% of the battery total. So if we cut that number in half due to half the pixels, we're looking at a 7.5% battery increase? Again, it's not nothing and I know for sure I plan on going with black theme's to take advantage of this as well, but I don't expect a HUGE difference.

i suppose it depends how you use your phone, mine is mostly calls and emails for 9 hours a day so the screen on time isnt much

Turning the screen on and off repeatedly 'wastes' more energy than a single, continuous use. A bright white uses full power on a pixel, while a muted white uses half of it, and black uses none, but gray uses a bit more power.

So you're saying if we switched to the black theme shown here: Samsung prepping a lot of Galaxy S6 themes, including an AMOLED friendly dark theme - SamMobile

Assuming we were always on this screen instead of the default theme, the screen display would be using 80+% less power? If so, that really could make a substantial difference. It's been a long day so I don't feel like doing the math, but it should allow significantly more screen on time.

Yup, pretty much. Not sure it would be that substantial (the screen is still displaying stuff and the pixels are not the only thing consuming power on the display as even when they're off, there has to be a driver controlling that the pixels are off), but yeah. Actually, if you turn Ultra Power Saving mode on the latest Samsung devices, that's one of the things they do: They turn everything black and white to conserve power.
