Hi I've been a SERO customer for many years. EVO 4G is enticing me to end SERO. My SERO contract ends on 7/14 and I was wondering what kind of retention I can expect if I go the EVO route.

I currently have $150 credit towards a new phone but even with that credit, my out of pocket is still $199. Yes same as a brand new Sprint customer. I told the guy, that this gives me no incentive to stay with Sprint instead of trying out another company. I haven't spoken to the retention department yet so I don't know what kind of deals they would offer.

Did anyone get a good deal (better than $199) from retention on a new EVO?

If $199 is the best I can do, I might as well try out the iphone since they have a 14 day trial period. Would I qualify for getting the EVO @ $199 if I terminate my Sprint account and come back in 14 days?

New customers always get the best deal, shouldn't be upset about that. They're not likely to give you any more off. You can leave and come back if you want, but you're going to spend way more money with AT&T over the life of a contract than any kind of extra discount can give you on a new phone.

You can try the iPhone, but remember you have to pay a restocking fee and perhaps still pay for the activation fee and possibly prorated charges. The only thing you aren't on the hook for is the full $350 ETF.

Ahh good point.. about the fees with trying out AT&T..

I'm in the Chicagoland area as well. Darth Mo. How's 4G coverage in the suburbs for you?

Also should I go thru Sprint customer support to get the EVO or should I just buy it locally at a store like BB or RS? I hear I don't have to worry about the mail-in rebate when buying thru them? Does that mean I get get it for cheaper than $199 given that I have a $150 credit? Or does it mean they will sell it to me ONLY for $199 and will not honor the $150 credit on my account?

4G coverage is pretty good, but sporadic. I'll sit in the same spot with 2/3 bars and cruise away at 7-8 Mbps, then all of a sudden it will drop down straight to 3G. Still get good speeds, but I'm not sure why the 4G flaky without moving around. So the 4G speed and coverage are good, but the I guess you could call the reliability an issue for the moment.

You will get the same price from either Sprint or the retailer ($449 - $150 new 2-year -$100 rebate = $199), but avoid having to deal with the rebate with the retailers. In the end they will both cost you $199 out of pocket unless you have a further discount of some sort.

Sprint makes you go through the mail in rebate to keep people from flipping the phones.

i can tell you what you can get for you leaving your SERO.
things you get...
10/24 - 10 dollars off for the next 24 months.
$70 credit for renewing your contract.

$10 off per month for years? How do you get this? just ask for it by name?

You'll get nothing special on the Evo. Period. It's just in too much demand right now, and Sprint has no incentive to offer anything. I've been a Sprint business customer for 13 years. The best I could get was an additional 10% discount on top of my corporate discount. No break on the price of the phone, no deal on the $10 fee, no way to keep my prior plan.

Oh, they did waive the activation fee. :)

I had so many issues with my Pre, pretty much like everyone else had, and retentions offered me a $10 credit per month over two years as an apology. I guess it all depends on who you get. I was lucky enough to get someone who was nice enough to care. Other times I have just gotten total pricks.
