Getting Ready to root and ROM

Okay gents I've been doing my research for a bit and I think I'm about to bite the bullet tonight and root/ROM my Evo. I'll be following THIS guide. Once I get the Sprint Lovers Rom set up, how do I back it up so I can get back to it just in case I screw something up switching to a different Rom? How do I recover it as well. Finally after rooting I want to switch to Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo Rom. Is it as easy as loading it on the SD card and installing from the recovery menu?

Thanks for the help!

Just boot into recovery after following the guide and while your on sprint lovers. While in recovery go to backup/restore and make a new nandroid backup, to restore this back up, just go into recovery and restore it.
Or you can use rom manager to do it automatically, its the same thing.

Then to get on MYN's, just put the .zip on your sd card, wipe and install from recovery.

Awesome. Thanks. I just did a factory reset on my phone after backing up my music (I can replace everything else) so off we go!

All done! Wasn't as scary as it seemed. I did a nandroid backup of the Sprint lovers Rom and put it, the back up of the stock Rom, and my Wimax keys in a safe place on my computer.

I'm running into a certain issue but I don't want to make a new post. Basically I went through the same steps as you did, followed the same guide, and installed sprint lovers. After that, I decided I want to try the bakedsnack 1.9 rom. However, once I run recovery mode and try to wipe and install that particular rom, it gives me an error saying something like, can't read SD card and thus, I cannot install the rom. I wonder what's going on. Can any of you help?

That happened to me before and I found out that it was an incomplete file download. Might wanna try re-downloading the ROM and try again.

I'm guessing its an incomplete download. Is there a md5 sum you can check?

If there is a md5 sum available it will be given in the OP where you got the ROM from. If not you can always search the thread for the ROM to see if someone posted it or you can PM the dev and ask them for it.

Invertchaos (or anyone else who has done this) -I am considering rooting my phone, but don't have any kind of expertise in it. I am wondering how knowledgeable you think one needs to be before doing this? You said it didn't take you very long to do. I'd like it not to take long and I'd like not to brick my phone....

Oh - and what does RUU mean or stand for?

Thanks!
