Ok, so as the title says, I will be buying this phone today in around 7-8 hours from now.

Is there anything I should know about it when I get to unboxing it?
Like, how to calibrate the battery the best way, cool apps to get for customization, performance, etc...

Is there an equivalent to Apple's Game Center? Is there anything like group messages on the iPhone that's for Android? Can it be possible to be in a group chat with iPhone users from Android?
Best slim/hard case (never use cases, but for this phone I want to for some reason)?

Thanks!

For a customization app try nova launcher.
I'm pretty sure you can be in group messages with iOS users
Game Center = Google play games

I love the stock launcher. I only used nova with my galaxy phones since the stock launcher it came with didn't have much customization plus to reduce it's lag. Nova isn't needed on the g3. I would turn off the vibrate feedback the keyboard has coming from iPhone myself I find that extremely annoying. Actually I turned off all the vibrate feedback on the phone, I hate it. Turn on the battery percent in settings/general/battery. Group messages work fine on the g3 stock messager but I've also liked textra messager a lot for that. Let us know if u need help with anything else. Enjoy your g3 and welcome to Android!

Nova launcher is good if you feel you are getting lag in the UI . If you do get Nova get the paid version for all the gesture support that way you can keep the double tap to turn off the phone on the home screen. I like swiftkey for a replacement keyboard.

As for cases Diztronic tpu case is great. Hardly any bulk to the phone, feels great in the hand, and protects the phone great. Also spring for a glass screen protector worth it plus so much better than the plastic ones.

You've got some really good advice from everyone! I'm not sure you need to calibrate the battery. They've updated battery tech on newer phones so they don't have that battery memory anymore, but if you wanted to be careful you could always use up the charge that comes on the battery out of the box and then charge it up to full.

I got this tech21 case from t-mobile when I bought the phone (they had a deal). It's very thin, lightweight, but also has special reinforcements on the inside to help with impacts.

I also agree with turning vibrations off on the keyboard and the phone in general.

I remember seeing early adopters say to factory reset the phone as soon as you turn it on. Helped to smooth it out

I have read that when you get the phone, turn it off and charge to 100%. Turn back on, the phone may step down to, say 98% or so. Then power off and charge back to 100%. You can do this process from time to time throughout your time with the phone. Sounds like a relationship commitment, lol!

Use your phone and charge often. Don't let it go below 5%. After a day or two, the battery will perform better than on day 1.

Poke around all the threads here. There's a lot of info; more than anyone can convey in a single post.

Just saw all the replies.
I've had my G3 for a day and 8 hours now, lol. Like, on the dot.
No issues so far. Disabled stuff, deleted some stock apps, got Nova Launcher Prime (for some reason it says I have Prime installed, but when I use a Prime feature on regular Nova Launcher, it says to get it again on the Play store, but when I uninstall, I have to pay the $4 again :/), have a pretty sick layout going on, on my home screen, got a cool icon pack, got some typical social media apps, a good texting app, etc, etc. Great phone so far :)
I'm noticing under medium-high (I guess) usage, the battery loses 10% every little less than an hour. Is that expected?

What I did battery-wise was let the phone fully die the day I got it (came with like 30% left anyway), charge it to 100%, use/idle it from yesterday before I went to sleep (10PM maybe) until like 11AM today when it got to 5%, charge it back to 100%, now I'm currently using that charge. I hit 100% at exactly 1PM EST, it's now 5PM and I have 68% left. Been using it moderately, heavily at a couple points, and currently letting it sit.

10% an hour under heavy use is better than I do...but it all depends on how you define heavy use. Like playing a game or streaming video while maintaining several email addresses and social media synced is how I define heavy use.

Try an app called Gsam to see what is draining your battery

Get the CPUSensefree app in the play store it will tell you the cpu and battery temps.
Monitor the hell out of it and play a 3 hour video on you tube.
See if it overheats or shuts down.
The battery should never reach 140F and the CPU should never get close to 160F-200F.
If it does, it is bad and you should get it replaced.
My original G3 had major heat issues and I already got my replacement and it seems fine.
Though it is still stock and not rooted yet, as I am testing it really good.
