Just unpacked a new google nexus 7, charged it, switched it on and i get a select Wi-fi screen which i cant get past. I cant set up the wifi since i need to get the mac code to instruct my router to talk to the nexus but the go to settings button at the top of the screen is unresponsive and no other buttons are visible or can be found by swiping. Help

Did you try the automated setup process? There's a physical button on some routers which allow them to mate up with receivers like your tablet. They must be in close proximity when activated. There's a selection on your N7 wifi screen to start the process.

Edit: it's the WPS button.

No such button on my router and it is usually not a problem for me to put the mac code into the router as i did with my HTC phone, but i just cant get ant response to the "go to settings button" and cant get to any home screen

Could you simply turn off the Mac filter for first log-in, or use someone's free WiFi?

Thanks
I did this and the nexus was able to log on, I found the MAC address so all is well.
A note to this effect in the start up manuial would help.

Just FYI MAC address filtering is pretty worthless. MAC addresses are trivial to spoof, so filtering them provides negligible extra security since almost anyone who knows how to hack a WiFi network will be able to spoof a valid address and connect to your network. I suggest not using it since it is more hassle than it is worth.
