Okay, this is really pissing me off that the stinkin' xoom not able to see my phone (AP). Every single device that I have can see my tethered captivate except for the xoom. Even my 1st generation iPhone can see and tether on it. What gives???

I've tried several app, and works on every device I have except for xoom. Pfft.

This thread is confusing. My Xoom can connect to both my phones, Nexus S and Mytouch 4G using the wi-fi tethering (hotspot). I never heard of it not being able to. Is this what you all are talking about?

@ qnet - I'm using my rooted Captivate with tethering app (barnacle, wifi tether), and somehow the Xoom can't see the my phone (as an AP). I guess it's because the xoom don't support ad-hoc...

Thanks for the link p08757 - looks like the bluetooth tethering only works for the wife/3G model, as I don't see some of the options is not showing on my tablet.

And yes, I've been searching...

That would be huge if they left bluetooth tether out of wifi Xoom for those that are not rooted.

I don't understand the logic so if anyone can confirm bluetooth tether IS NOT available on wifi Xoom please post.

Edit: I checked some other forums and it looks like BT tether is working with Moto phones and 50/50 on other brands for wifi Xoom. Maybe its a Samsung thing.

I'm using tetherme from cydia on my jailboken iPhone 4. It was a total pain for them to pair, but I managed to get it working, good luck.

Xooms can't connect to ad-hoc networks, and that's what you're trying to do.

False. I have a rooted captivate with wireless AP activated and I'm connected to it right now to type this message.

Not sure what is going wrong with op. I'm not. Using any special app on either the captivate (cognition rom) or the xoom. Turn on AP on phone. Goto wifi settings on xoom, find AP, connect.

I'm rooted, but I have the "official" build (Froyo), so that might be the difference. If you read my early post, I used wireless tether/barnacle, and it works on all my device except for the xoom. That said, I'm going to agree that the xoom is not compatible with ad-hoc. Again, the only difference maybe because you are using cognition...

I don't know much about Galaxy S rom builds but I do know the wifi hotspot that google includes in Froyo (non manipulated) works with the Xoom.

thefredelement, which phone are you using? That's an option you have to pay the carrier for every month, right?

Ok so did any one with a wifi confirm. Bluetooth tethering is missing?

Only being able to see infrastructure mode is an android limitation. Your xoom needs infrastructure ....period.

Bt tether is an option but does not work on many non moto phones.

My rooted Thunderbolt with stock Verizon Mobile Hotspot app tethered to my Xoom flawlessly. Did not try the Bluetooth alternative.
