Ok I have conceded that the TB will not be coming out until March, and yes I plan to wait for it and get one when it comes out. I'm still on a Storm 1, with that said and still being 2+ months out until launch, what are the thoughts/chances of this getting 2.3 Gingerbread by then? It will have been out for 4 months by then, keeping my fingers crossed, but i would hope its atleast a possibility??

It is possible but not to likely were going to just have to wait and see. If it doesn't I'm sure there will be Roms available soon:)

i took it as the thunderbolt will be upgradable to 2.3 out of the box like if you bought a OG droid after 2.1 was released like i did, when you took it out of its box it was on 2.0 but all you had to do was go to system settings and tap check for updates i dont know but thats how i took it

The RUU was released last week. They already have the TBolt's stock rom running on an EVO... That gives a lot a very talented people a huge head start. We may have custom ROM's for this phone before we have the phone itself... and that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. It also makes me think someone out there is working on an AOSP gingerbread rom for this phone as we speak. If not, I'm sure it wont be long until one is ported over and drivable.

HTC's website has it with 2.2. I suppose that they could update it if they get 2.3 ready.

I too am on a Storm 1, hate it with a passion, but am holding out for the Thunderbolt (apparently I like weather theme'd phones?) unless the Bionic will be out around the same timeish....still not sure which I'd pick between them. It's Sense vs dual-core for me....if the Thunderbolt was dual-core, it'd be a no-brainer. Not that I can think of anything I'd need dual-core for...and no LTE in Omaha for a while either...

And if the Bionic is DRM'd like the DX is with that eFuse chip ... the HTC will BE my replacement for the DX when it's released.

that is actually my sole reason for getting the thunderbolt is to stick with weather themed phones....

That is a great point about the developers all ready working on Roms. We can have them on our spare sdcards while we wait in line for it. Might even be able to root and flash a Rom before we leave the Verizon store.

Where did you get the march release date from? Man, this Xmas present might well turn into a birthday gift lol

I agree. I'm on the Storm 1 (upgrade is in May) I can't wait to break this damn phone... I LOVE the Sense (weather theme, ect) on the HTC So I'm buying an HTC phone.

There's no exact date. But Verizons press release stated that their first LTE device could come as soon as March. And we know that the first LTE device will be the TBolt.

If RIM hadn't have gone and taken the name (and ruined it) Storm would have actually been a good name for the Thunderbolt...

HTC is working on optimization, but I doubt they are doing 2.3 for the launch. I do think we would see it by June at the latest.

I am a loyal HTC fan. i will love upgrading from the OG Droid Incredible to the Thunder Bolt.

Storm 1 user here too. I can't wait to not have to pull my battery 3 times a day. And as for weather themes, I thought at my first glimpse of the thunder bolt image was using the Storms lightning bolt. LOL. Have a feeling a lot of storm 1 users are going to jump ship when it's released.
