Ok, this was a problem on the last leak but I was running .588 and all was fine.
I looked at maps and it acted normally. I calibrated the compass and it went back to switching East and West..it turns the wrong way.

Is there anyway to erase the compass calibration???

On the last one, I even factory reset but the incorrect calibration remained. Help anyone?

Re-calibrate it ... Settings > Location & Security > Calibrate compass

Make sure you are OUTSIDE when you do it, with no obstructions to the sky. Also, make sure you do it exactly as shown in the example. I will take about a full minute or so to turn green - indicating you have completed the calibration.

I had this exact problem with the previous GB leak (not the latest) and am saddened to find out that the problem still persists for some people on the newest GB. I wont be updating until this issue is confirmed fixed.

Besides, I'll get my GB fix from the Nexus S 4G my office is getting me in a few weeks :D

I tried exactly how you suggested and no go. Up on a roof, completely unobscured view of the sky. In portrait it switches turning left and right but in landscape it appears to work correctly.

My GPS Works flawlessly and I haven't seen this bug..... You do realize you can tap the pointer and it will rotate the map view the other way..

Yes but it still moves in the opposite direction.
Really need to figure out why I have this bug.

Is it off if you use a third party Compass app from the Market or justwhen you are in google maps?
Not sure if the answer to that question helps much, but I guess it could help if it worked in one instance and not in another to figure something out...

Good question actually.
Compass app from market displays normally as does the built in calibration.
Google maps reverses when the phone is moved around while flat and upright in portrait. It moves correctly when upright in landscape.

I'm having the same exact problem. Compass apps, GPS status, calibration, everything BUT Google maps works flawlessly. Only in Google maps does the East-West get reversed, and it plays havoc with Google Nav as well, constantly trying to reroute itself.

I went back to Froyo because Navigation is one thing I absolutely need to work without issue. I will not upgrade to GB until it is confirmed that this issue has been resolved.

I just upgraded to .591 and am still having this issue. For Navigation, it actually works fine in landscape so if you use it that way you should be ok.
I think it's more of a GMaps problem than it is a GB issue but I'm not sure why only a few of us are seeing it.
