I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting pretty anxious to root this sucker safely and get some Gingerbread going on it...lol. I've only had the thing for a few days and I'm already getting antsy. Lol

I'm not really sure I trust it...plus, I don't see much of a point in rooting if I can't install custom roms or kernels. Lol

Dude I'm rooted, gingerbreak 1.2 was beautifully easy. Try it. Root access, although I wasn't able to flash a recovery, is definitely a plus. Gotta have my root apps

I've successfully rooted using gingerbreak and have installed the wifi teather and superuser app.

So tethering works after you rooted?

I've rooted and installed the wifi tethering app, but I can't get it to work yet. It looks like its working, but I can't download or access the internet from my laptop. Has anyone else got it to actually work?

I have tried multiple versions of tethering apps, wifi-tether for root, wired-tether etc. etc.

None of the wireless apps work, and the wired-tether app does work but will only let me connect to Google sites. Seems like everything else is filtered.

I'm willing to bet VM somehow blocked any form of tethering on their phones. With all the hotspot abusers out there, I can't say I blame them.

Is it me or does it seem odd to everyone else to think that somehow Virgin Mobile figured out a way to block tethering on their network when none of the other bigger carriers have done anything like that so far. I am thinking it is more likely a issue with the software/hardware.

wifi tether wont work, even if you're rooted. We may have to wait for a custom ROM for that. Stick with USB tether for now cuz that works.

So now that we know that this phone is manufactured by Huawei, who wants to place bets on when this phone will get an official Gingerbread update, if ever? I'm going to guess that since there are so many channels to go through first (Huawei, Motorola, Virgin), we won't likely ever see an update...
